It will be interesting to see who Scout.com puts at #1, once they decide who is going to replace their current #1, Mark Barkley.
They should be #1 and #2 on rivals. I got Shep since it's the QB position he is gonna play in college. I would put Mike Ford #3 in the nation. No lie.
Yeah, I'm still undecided who is #1 (I should have added a third option that said it's a push/tie/draw). On one hand, I like Randle, because like you said, he is more of a sure thing at WR--he probably has the best chance at the NFL at his position. As for Shep, he can be used at QB, WR or another position--but would he be better at any one position than Randle is at WR? I doubt Shep would be a better WR than Randle, but Shep might be a better college QB than Randle is a college WR, because of the dual-threat Shep offers. It's hard to tell. I do think Randle had a better chance at being a great WR as a true freshman than Shep does at being a great QB as a true freshman, just because QB is much harder position. One thing that makes me think about voting for Shep is the intangibles--his leadership, character, personality, work ethic, etc--all of which seems to be off the charts for a kid his age. All of that is just going to increase the chances that he himself turns out to be a sure thing--as well as increase the chances that he's the type of person that makes his entire team better just by being on it.
Depends on how you look at it... who would you rather Julio Jones or Percy Harvin? Harvin gives your team so many more options... but Jones is the better pure receiver. (In case it isn't clear RR = JJ, and RS = PH) .I expect both to have fantastic careers, but I think Shepard has a better chance of being a Heisman contender/face of the program type player based on his personality. On top of the characteristics you just mentioned, he also appears to be much more outgoing than RR.
Randle may be able to have an earlier impact but I voted for Shepard because along with him you get other quality players as well. Maybe Randle is silently recruiting but Shepard is front and center promoting the team before officially enrolling in school. This leads me to believe that Shepard will also get players to rally around him and make them better on the field. Having a guy that is a great leader and great player is tough to find. I think he'll be a leader on and off the field and teammates won't let him down.
Id say RS, because of his leadership skills. Randle probably has more upside. But he cant throw the ball to himself.
I said RS. Down for down, he'll have more impact than R2, even though I agree with most of what had been said about R2. Shep's going to touch the ball more.
I voted for Randle because he is better at his position than Shepard is at his, but Shepard probably has more general athleticism.
