Shepard is a diehard... From 12/30... http://sports.espn.go.com/broadband/video/videopage?videoId=3801292&categoryId=3611092&n8pe6c=2
I agree with this statement. You are the closest thing we have to Shepard on this forum. I think you would probably make a good recruiter for LSU.
How is he doing at the UA camp? From TOF it doesn't sound like his passing is stellar but his legs are working overtime. The Shepard :hihi:
Having trouble with his down the field throws but his elusiveness and explosion is being raved about.
"I have the opportunity to come in fresh, come in early and contribute," Shepard said. "Worst case scenario, I come in and do what [Florida's] Tim Tebow did his freshman year." He may be hell bent on playing QB.
Shep's coach on Shepard compared to the great Vince Young: Russell's a very explosive player; Vince is very explosive," Thiebaud said. "Vince is bigger; I think Russell is faster. I don't know the intangibles about Vince. His work ethic. I've heard stories. Character. I don't know those. "I do know Russell Shepard, and he's not second to anybody."
Good as advertised While Russell Shepard (Houston/Cypress Ridge) struggled at times with the exchange and cadence, like the rest of the UA All-American signal-callers at Wednesday's practice, his athleticism and speed with the ball in his hands were striking. Shepard was basically a human blur when keeping the ball on draw plays. His ability to reach top speed instantly through the hole made him almost impossible to wrap up. Quarterbacks impress One thing that stood out quickly was the increased talent in this year's quarterback crop. Despite the usual first-practice problems with cadence and timing, White signal-callers Matt Barkley (Santa Ana, Calif./Mater Dei) and Richard Brehaut (Ranco Cucamonga, Calif./Los Osos) showed good arm strength and polish throughout the day, while fellow teammate Moses Alipate (Bloomington, Minn./Jefferson) flashed impressive zip on his intermediate routes. Not to be outdone, Shepard, Garrett Gilbert (Austin, Texas/Lake Travis) and Josh Nunes (Upland, Calif.) looked very accurate throughout the first practice. http://sports.espn.go.com/ncaa/recruiting/football/columns/story?columnist=tucker_billy&id=3802518
The word about his passing is that his arm strength is very good but he has a hitch in his form (not the throwing motion but the point in which he raises the ball over his head). Also, reading defenses is something he will have to work on, which is what we would expect.
