This kid has a real shot at the Heisman by his junior or senior year. He is a very special talent. For God's sake let him play enough to get into the rithym of the game. He ran the ball six times tonight and didn't do much on the first 5 but busted the big one one his last carry. What does it take for Miles to make RS an intregal part of the offense?
Re: Shepherd for Heisman Before his college career is over he will "bust the big one" a lot more times. I hope he touches the football at least 10-15 times against the Crimson Tide. If he does something magic will happen
Re: Shepherd for Heisman Shep reminds me very much of Charlie Ward, the 1993 Heisman Winner... even when it comes to how great they are as off-the-field leaders. However, Ward didn't see the field until he was a junior (and had a rough start that year).
Re: Shepherd for Heisman I think it's very important that Shep sees the field a good bit against bama.
Re: Shepherd for Heisman I see him as a Reggie Bush type player, only faster. He very well could make a difference in the Bama game if he gets enough touches Seeing last night's TD run is what we have all be waiting for
Re: Shepherd for Heisman I wouldn't say faster.. but I do think he recognizes what he is, unlike Reggie.
Re: Shepherd for Heisman I think it's ok to label him a Reggie type player but we don't know yet. I can say this if we learn to get the ball to him in space something wonderful will always happen. He is special and I know the staff knows that!! I would like him to run a option package off the Wild Tiger and run it back to back if it picked up more than 5 yards per. He seems to be a great young man also:milesmic:
Re: Shepherd for Heisman Just use him in a Percy Harvin type role. I don't think anyone is advocating him replacing JJ at QB. Just get him on the field and be creative getting the ball in his hands. Use him in wildcat stuff and make it a true wildcat, not just take the snap and run up the middle but with options to KW & TH. Use him as a RB or WR keep it simple and get him in space. The guy is a special talent in the mold of Harvin or Gayle Sayers who can make something out of nothing. His ability to accelerate out of a cut is a gift. Let's use it. Bama is great on D but on O they are pretty average except for Ingram. Let's do to them what everyone has been doing to us which is stack the box against Ingram and make the QB beat us. Then make them defend everything including Shep in all sorts of roles. We can beat the Gumps doing stuff like that. I'd also like to see RR in 3 WR sets. The Gumps & UF have fast athletic DB's but in general they aren't tall. We would go 6'3" to 6' 5" and still fast and athletic. Make those little SOB's have to jump.
