I think he gets the overwhelming majority of reps at QB. When used elsewhere he will mostly go athleticism.
You make a good point. Logic says he should redshirt to get a reasonable chance at QB if JJ beats him out. But Shep has also maintained two other items. Immediate impact on the team, and playing wherever he is needed to help the team win. For that reason, I don't think he will redshirt. The coaches will probably find some balance for him between QB/wildtiger/Harvin type plays. Obviously, he is deadly once he gets the ball in his hands, so they will likely devise multiple scenarios to do just that, while giving him a shot at QB. Add to that, we will still need 2-3 Qbs to get through the year with possible injuries. JJ, Lee, and Shep will probably all have to have some comfort level with the play book. Garrett however will likely redshirt, and possibly be another Flynn in 3 yrs. Shepard will letter next year.
There is no Doubt that Russell Shepard will play this year, in some capacity. We need a reliable backup at QB, and the Run-Pass-Option is too important to our offense. The earlier we get Rusty in the swing of things, the better the offense will run.
How is that possible? you must have Russell Shepard mixed up with J-Lee or Jamie Howard...Russell Shepard can have a successful season at QB, without throwing a pass...He is not like any QB we ever had, his 1st three steps remove just about ever angle a D-linemen would have on him. RS is faster than Murphy, and can break more tackles than Trindon.
I'm sure his high-school stats and the limited amount of video available to us confirm all of this...:insane: Perrilloux looked every bit this good...if not better...and found that he was just better than average in the SEC. He COULD have been great with time and development, but was NOT a game-changer simply because of his raw ability. I've said my peace. My prediction has been made. We'll see if I'm right.
I have seen him play in person, and combined with the all star performance(against the best talent in the country), he makes nearly everyone look like they are standing still. He has speed, body control, and vision unlike anyone I have watched besides Harvin. But he can also throw the ball. I disagree. RP didn't play vs the same competition and had/has nowhere near the body control of Shep. And I think having Russell in front of him(#1 NFL pick) and a .05 head on his shoulders is what kept him off the field. That's fair enough. We will all know in a few months.:thumb:
I live in Houston, and have been to 4 of his home games this year...and you are delusional if you think Ryan Perrilloux had a 1/4 of the running ability Russell Shepard has. You are obviously live under a rock, if you have seen "limited video" on Russell Shepard. Your so called "prediction" is merely a uneducated guess(see above quote) towards the success of Russell Shepard in our offense. Next time, make a "Limited Prediction" based on your limited Knowledge of a subject.
I wanted to remind everyone of the last time we were this excited over a QB prospect...from LSUSports.net on RP: Called by many the top prospect in the nation in 2004 ... One of the most high-profile signees in LSU’s history ... Named the National High School Player of the Year by Ball Park and was named the National Offensive Player of the Year by USA Today ... A consensus five-star All-American by every major recruiting publication ... Other honors included EA Sports Elite 11 Quarterback, Parade All-American, Touchdown Club of Columbus (Ohio) National Offensive Player of the Year, U.S. Army All-American Bowl Participant (West Roster), Louisiana's Mr. Football and Louisiana Gatorade Player of the Year ... Rated the nation’s No. 1 prospect by ESPN ... A dominating playmaker many called the most dangerous offensive weapon in the nation ... No. 1 dual-threat quarterback who was nearly impossible to contain during his career ... Considered to have the strongest arm in the country with a quick release and pinpoint accuracy ... Racked up a Louisiana high school record 5,006 total yards of offense as a senior, including 3,546 yards passing and 1,460 yards rushing ... Accounted for 67 total touchdowns (30 passing, 37 rushing) in 2004 ... Had one of the most dominating high school careers in state history totaling 12,705 yards of offense (9,025 passing; 3,680 rushing), which ranks second all-time ... Ranks fourth on the state's all-time passing list ... Had 155 total touchdowns (84 passing, 71 rushing) in four years ... Totaled 21 tackles and two interceptions on defense ... Three-sport athlete who played shooting forward for the basketball team and centerfield for the baseball team ... Coached by Larry Dauterieve. His resume was far superior to RS, and he redshirted. That's all I'm sayin'.
