Everyone keeps saying "for now". Well, if you think "for now" means for the next 2-3 years while he waits for JJ to move on, then you're right. He won't unseat a QB with experience that's getting it done. IMO, there's no way he plays a Harvin-role for three years and then switches positions in his final year. This isn't High-School. My stomach is turning at the inevitable QB debate we have to look forward to for the next three years...
I said this before and I'll say it again, Sheppard will not unseat JJ at QB. He is too small. He needs to add a LOT of bulk and he's not as tall as advertised. Just look at the pictures of him standing next to Chris Carter and Andre Debose. Carter was towering over both of them and if Shep was even taller than Debose it wasnt by much. I think Sheps physical stats are exaggerated which is not unusual. If you want to compare him with Harvin I suggest you watch the story that was on ESPN last night. Its probably replaying all day today. He was sitting down doing military presses with 100lb dumb bells! He's a physical freak. IMHO Sheps long term position will be specialty player/slot receiver. Mr Excitement. He has the athleticism to do anything in open space. Hopefully his quickness will allow him to avoid getting pounded with his small frame.
That's kind of my point. The second JJ has a mediocre game, all the people slobbering over Shep will be calling for him at QB, and it will spark a legendary debate over which of our star QB's should be playing. And just to clarify (for the fifth time), I'm not against Shep. I just don't see him wasting years of eligibility NOT playing QB, and he's really, REALLY going to have to improve...and wait for an injury, most likely...to overtake what appears to be a solid QB in JJ.
Im not against Shep either. I just think LSU will be better with both him AND JJ on the field. Not one or the other.
SIGH....:dis: I can't make it any clearer than I already have. Clearly you have the wrong impression of what I'm trying to say and you either don't want to or CAN'T think of it from any other perspective than what you have formed. Think what you want. I'm PRO Shep, but against him WASTING a year of eligiblity playing for scraps while he waits for Jefferson to give up his position.
From your intial post yesterday, it has taking you some convincing to get to this point. I would have been more incline to believe you if you started out this way. Maybe your statement was wrongly worded, but I cant read minds. So I will think what I want and what you intially said. Since you dont care anyway, I'll give you the benefit of the doubt, but your comment about the 3 year debate over this was strange to me, assuming that you would be arguing for him to change positions.
I haven't changed or shifted my opinion at all. Shep needs to play QB, but he needs to redshirt to do so. I don't like all this "he can be our Mr. Excitement" BS. We have plenty of "Mr. Excitement" to go around, and we can use him more in the future AS A QB (once he's coahced up) than as an all-purpose athlete next year. If he plays next year, we might get ONE year with him at QB. Why does it seem nobody realizes this?
