I am sure he will. But if the UA game is anything like the Army game (in pass protection) Shep will have to play exceptionaly well to "play well" BAHAHAHAHAHAHA
Shepard is fine at throwing downfield but did not do well in this skills challenge. He was quite good in the games I saw this year, and was reported the same in the games I did not. Barkley tore it up in this skills challenge and was a veritable interception machine this year. Guess this skills challenge means a lot, huh? Obviously, Shep feels the pressure to prove he can throw and did not have a good day. LSU fans should just appreciate what they have, because you really have no idea how amazing he is. But you will.
Russel Shepard's QB challenge peformance To the people who were wondering about the point of the post... I thought i made my point. I plainly stated that Barkley looked really good as RS looked off. I didn't make a big deal out of it by any means. I was just making a statement on what i saw. He's 17 maybe 18 years old i'm certainly not worried about a skills competition. I just said that RS went first and looked the worst of the group. Barkley went last and looked heads and shoulders above the rest in the skills competition. I didn't witness the actual UA all-star game so i can't speak on in game performance
Re: Russel Shepard's QB challenge peformance As mentioned here, these challenges don't really show how good of a QB these guys are, and we knew all along that RS was going to have to work on being a complete QB because he's been in a run, run, run offense through all of high school.
I will be surprised if RS is the QB of the future. He will realize that he does not have the arm strength to play college football, and be moved to a Percy Harvin role. Just thinking of Jefferson having Russell as a weapon like this, makes me misty eyed....
That's always a possibility, and frankly considering his athleticism, one that I'm sure many fans wouldn't be dissapointed to see. His leadership abilities & dedication to becoming a complete QB are the reasons I see him staying there & having much success at LSU.
I have always had concerns about Shepard being a typical athlete-quarterback type whose rating is based on his overall athleticism rather than his skill as a quarterback. Until his senior year his passing stats were very poor. I have mentioned that before. During the Armour game he completed only 2 out of 6 passes. Hopefully he will sharpen his skill once he gets to LSU, but I will not be too surprised if he ends up as a running back or a wide receiver. Time will tell.
Shepard may be the new Pat White except even more athletic. Remains to be seen if he can come in early and dethrone JJ. What happens if JJ keeps his QB spot, does RS play backup or moves to another position ? If he moves to a Percy Harvin type roll as a true freshman does he ever make the move back to QB ? Regardless, it will be fun to watch him develop. Please don't jinx RS by posting that name in a thread involving him. Threw up in my mouth when I read it !
Shep will be fine at QB. He is ahead of Pryor, and White as far as mechanics. He's faster, and more elusive than both. He'll be brought along slow, and will play a Harvin type role with designed plays at qb for now...
