Big pickup for the 2010 LSU basketball class.

I will let the b-ball experts give more details.

    OH YEAH, BABY!!!!!

GREAT PICK UP TRENT AND STAFF!!!! :thumb:

This is an incredibly nice surprise, given all of the recent "negativity" about our program's men's hoops recruiting success, and the fact that Matt was talking about making a decision later. :yelwink2:

Look, not a lot to say that hasn't been said. Tigerbait is the only one reporting this right now, but according to their conversation with Derenbecker, he did give Trent the verbal. Soon after some great performances at Peach Jam no less... :thumb:

For those that don't know, MD is LA's Gatorade POY last year, is a pure shooter who at 6-6 ish, can play the 2 or 3, and can score with the best of them. A lefty with a smooth shot, has range out to NBA range and uses his very good jumpshot to create offense for him and others. He may not be the prototypical "LSU" athletic SG, but Trent is redesigning his system to feature kids like Matt. Smart kids that understand the game and have a high degree of BASKETBALL SKILL. Matt will take pressure off of inside guys with his shot, will move well without the ball, and pass real well. He already has good chemistry with Eddie Ludwig a '09 LSU commit, and will play very well within Trent's free-flow motion offense. He may have to get stronger and quicker, but LSU's strength and conditioning program is stout, and Matt's known as a "smart" defender whose defense will definitely improve with Trent's teachings.

What excites me again, is that when has LSU ever had as "pure" a shooter commit? Not really during the Brady era would a kid like Matt want to come here. On top of that, another New Orleans prospect picking LSU, and arguably the most "decorated" LA prospect picking LSU. He was number one priority on my board and I'm estatic he committed.

Now, number 2 is Andre Stringer. There's another player that fits right into what Trent is creating with his teams. You've got shooters all around you who can take your assist count UP, and help you recruit big men to complement that. GEAUX TIGERS! :geauxtige

Also for those that want a little bit more on Mr. Derenbecker, and some insight to the recent decision, here is an article that I don't believe was ever posted on this board...

Country Day's Matt Derenbecker is in demand - NOLA.com

A good read, and should get you thinking that Trent is making some good picks. :thumb:

Should also say that this kid has like a near 4.0 GPA and a 28 on his ACT...

Great early commitment! I saw CD play Central Catholic last year, and came away much more impressed with Derenbacker than Ludwig.

If you have a Rivals subscription, there's film on Rivals.

Also, TigerBait's full blown story is up now, and here's the link:

Very nice article, with some very nice quotes. MD is a smart kid who really did his research (and listened to what I had to say on this board :hihi:). He's going to be a very nice addition, and will certainly have a pretty big impact just because of what Trent wants to run. It also sounds like he's the type that's pretty sure of himself... so no funny business when it comes to recruiting.

I'll say again, Andre Stringer, you got to be next!

Great pickup. Yeah, I really hope Stringer is next, and would love to get Turner as well. That would be a great class.
