To call Les Miles a quality coach is quite a joke. How can one think this? It doesn't matter what talent he recruits, if he refuses to properly and sufficiently utilize that talent, it's utterly meaningless. If I were Russell Shepard, I would be absolutely pissed. I feel bad for him. I was really looking forward to him developing into a great player at LSU. Les Miles would never let that happen though. There are many other examples as well. I wish for Russell's sake that he would have gone elsewhere. Just expect more of the same next year.

I feels somewhere b/t where you feel and the quote you quoted. I am giving it two more years. If he doen't learn from the mistakes of Jan. 9th and the mistakes I'm sure he'll make over the next two years, it MAY be time to look for someone else. He's GREAT at EVERYTHING ELSE but the MOST IMPORTANT part, GAMEDAY COACHING.

I am glad RS stayed...but are you analyzing the talent of this team on a daily basis? Have you ever seen a highlight video of a guy in high school that was awesome, but that guy never really panned out? I have. Have you ever seen a college guy dominate...but not make it in the pros? I have. Heck I have played along side guys that tore it up like RS in high school but couldn't stay on a Jr College squad.

How do YOU know that the talent isn't being used properly? How do you know who is really talented enough to be dominant at this level? I am not being a jerk...but at the end of the day we are at the house watching tv when these coaches spend HOURS watching film and studying athletes.

Boy if you guys who think Les and Company can't coach are correct...and we get someone who CAN coach, we could win the Superbowl much less the BCSNCG. :D

I completely understand your point. This may very well be the case with Shepard, although I hope it's not. Still, Miles continuously proves his refusal to let talented players do just that and "play". Think of Monday night's play calling. There was less than two pass attempts beyond ten yards. Just as I previously stated, it doesn't matter how great of a player you have, if you never pass, the receivers can never catch it. I also understand that we had Jefferson taking snaps on Monday. If Miles didn't trust him to try any passes then he should have put in whoever he had the most faith in to pass.

So what happens if JLee gets in a throws 2 pick 6's because that PASS RUSH of Bama was smoldering our O-line? We just don't know what the coaches know. We got beat...Bama punched us in the mouth and we couldn't respond.

Here's to us carrying this into Spring Training and letting it make us hungrier than Bama...and we hoist the crystal next year with blood dripping from our jowls.

    By now I am sure

I am sure that by now you know I live in the Guitar City I voted for Miles as the best . This is about the coach but like the rest of you I am going to the QB play . In emails I told Les he could not beat Bama with JJ . I was right . JJ and J Lee used as they should have been used , and we could have won that game . It is never the Long pass that opens the run , it is the short 5 to 10 yard passes , with a few 15 to 20 yard passes that will do that . We all know what JJ can do, we know what J Lee can do.
Miles did not coach in that game , I do not care what anyone says . The team knew it , Bama fans know it , or maybe the ones up here in Nashville are smarter than the ones in Sabanville . Up here they know it . They have asked the question my wife ,who went to UT asked me . she asked , in the 2nd quarter , "Is he throwing the game?'
She, like me remembers Billy Cannon and "The Barber Shop Quartet". When I see a game like this one was coached , I wonder , and I think , "Tell me it ain't so Coach , tell me you tried to win this game . You hat was empty ! Why ?"

One more coached game like the BCS Title game , and I will say "Yes he is still the best . But it is time for him to move on ."

How could he have the record that he has without being a quality coach? Everyone was singing his praises when we were undefeated and he was named National Coach Of The Year. We may never know what transpired among the players during the period from the SEC Championship till the BCS. All of the speculation and rumors prove nothing other than the OL had the worse game I've ever seen. They has their a$$ handed to them. What was the reason for that? Was this Miles' fault? The buck stops at the head man but the OL playing like high school players was unexpected and Miles said so. Speculation as to what happened does nothing for the program. There may have been issues between players and it all came to a head during the long wait between games. It's time for JJ and JL to move on and we as fans can look forward to next year.

I will say that he is consistent. What made him send Hester into the line 5 times on 4th down is the same thing that made him steadfast against changing from JJ. It's a Big 10 mentality. Usually he is right. In this instance it didn't work out. What will be determinate is did he learn anything this time? Unless the episodes multiply, it would be terrible if LSU spoiled on him now. He is our coach. He is a winning coach...in the toughest Conference in the country. The memory of this game should be put in the attic and looked upon as a learning experience.

I can see both sides of the coin on this issue. Lots of people have been calling for an improved offensive philosophy and said that unless it changed, we'd lose "vs (insert team here)"....

Well, everyone was right in a way.

For one, everyone that said we'd lose when we played all those teams on our schedule were wrong. The notion: "it doesn't matter if you know it's coming cause if you can't stop it, tough." rang true all season long.....until Jan. 9th.

    Then, they were proven correct.

In hindsight, no, you don't change what's been working (ground-n-pound) because that IS what got you where you are. But you've ALWAYS GOT to be prepared for Plan B and always recognize what you're struggling with and TRY to all your capabilities, to correct it.

It's that "Plan B" that Miles seemingly never had and worse, seems that he never even thought of it.

My HOPE, is that this beatdown was so embarrassing to Miles that he WON'T let that happen again. Losing is one thing....getting blown out and made to look clueless is another. You can't win 'em all every time, so no, Miles isn't going to ALWAYS go 13-0...but neither is any other coach.

Take the clock management...er....MIS-management 2 years ago. It was such a blackeye for Miles and on such a national level that to his credit, he and his staff have focused and corrected that. And I think we can all agree that we haven't seen anything like that since. In fact, it's been sometimes comical how FAST he's had substitutions on/off the field when the clock becomes an issue.
