The Big 10 had 9 "Bowl eligible" teams too. 6 wins ain't chit- ESPECIALLY with three to the tune of MTSU, Tulane, La. Tech, etc.
My take on it is that we should only play home games for our non-conference schedule. I know that most people disagree, and I understand the argument. My point is that since we have FL as our permanent SEC east foe, our schedule is tough enough. When you add the SECCG, the strength of schedule is fine. I do know that this theory did not work out for AU, but let's face it, they are the paper tigers, we are the real TIGERS! We get so much respect, we don't have to worry about getting shut out of the title game! GEAUX TIGERS! PS This also helps the budget.
I wonder the App. St. game will get picked up by ESPN2 or something... I'm sure there will be some out there hoping for another upset...
LSU would rather have the income from one additional home game, rather than commit to a home and home series with another BCS opponent. They have an expensive operation to run and support the non-revenue sports, while- I believe- not getting any financial support for the program from the State. Still, reputation-wise, it does seem it would enhance the program's reputation. But, like a previous poster stated, the competition in the SEC is at an all-time high. Look at the physical toll it took on the team this year, with that meatgrinder schedule.
yeah looks like we'll only play 6 ranked teams a year instead of 7. :yelwink2: LSU has a history of letting good ooc opponents break contracts with us. we let them out. heck we let va tech out of their return trip years ago and just had it made this past year (that's karma for ya). since technically that ariz st game was a "home" game that got moved there due to katrina, ariz st was nice enough (instead of insisting we go there two years in a row), to cancel the series and reinstate a home and home in the 2010's i think.
Plus, they beat Michigan who was what...3rd in the big 10? So we are scheduling the equivalent of the 2nd place team in the big 10 :thumb:
My preference would be to have one OOC BCS opponent each year, do a home-and-home, and schedule the away game in odd-numbered years, and the home game in even-numbered years. This is because our odd-numbered years are easier, with a better slate of home games. Then in the even-numbered years, which are harder, we get that OOC home game to make the home schedule better (and presumably the game is easier to win).
