If not, you're almost inviting pure, blind speculation to rule the polls. If you don't consider games and venue and magnitude thereof, you are not rewarding the courage to make these games happen. I just hate that Wisconsin ain't next.
Becauseā¦ look at this. Bama beat #8 by 27 points. USC beat unranked, bad, Hawaii by 39 points. All they're doing is looking at that and boom, obviously Bama should jump USC. Why not, exactly? This is unbiased, mind you. I'm not blindly looking through my crimson-colored glasses, but at the schedules/points/wins/etc. Doesn't matter if people all are convinced "Michigan was overrated!1", they were ranked #8 and that's what matters in the polls. Polls mean nothing this early in the season anyway, so move along..
The real question is if we end up losing by 3 on 11/6, will we be given media darling status at year's end if Oregon and USC end up 1-1 and we finish with one loss? Any calls for a rematch by Gary Danielson and Urban Meyer 5 minutes after the game is over?
They were ranked # 3 in the BCS or they would have been in the game. Being number 1 in a single poll is meaningless. LSU was #1 in NINE of the 11 BCS polls and rankings.
This...courtesy of TigerTap. Last year when #4 LSU beat #3 Oregon in week 1, LSU moved up exactly 1 spot to #3 in the Coaches poll. Oklahoma & Bama apparently both had "Held Serve", by beating Kent State & UTEP. #3 Bama beats #8 Michigan & jumps to #1. Now back to me...mind you, we whipped Oregon pretty good despite the "this close" offered by Mark May on CFB Live last week. Take away that garbage time TD and they lose by 3 TDs. That game wasn't near about close. No disrespect to the whipping you guys put on Michigan at all. It was a helluva performance and worthy of #1 status. But as it stands, you guys are judged by a different set of rules. This is a prime example.
Alright, you've got a point. I didn't know that. And it sucks... But we did only move up one spot this week, technically. I agree LSU should've jumped to #1 after the Oregon game last year, but it doesn't matter now... Again, polls don't mean anything this early in the season, and also, again, I don't like the way it goes where there are double standards/love for other teams/etc. LSU should've been #1 in 2011 week 2, but they weren't, and I don't think that's fair now that Bama jumps to #1. But then, as I already said, it still is just 1 spot. That said, you're right that there's too much love from sportswriters/voters for Bama (and USC, for that matter), for some reason.
