I would think Verge was referring to public schools only, as private schools do not get public funding (thus ND & USC would not be included).
Those who aren't that are listed here... UF FSU UGA TX Ohio State and Tennessee are two of them, there aren't public records for USC, ND, Miami, and OU. There are a lot of schools throughout the NCAA that don't take state dollars...a lot that do that should close their programs....JMO.
They will or will not? If they will, then why do we not have series going again? Cuz that would be nice to kick their azz this time around.
See initial post. Self-sustaining meaning the athletic program does not receive any money from the university either.
Given that they have more living alumni than any other school, I'd think that Ohio St. would have to be in there. I believe they and Texas have the largest enrollment of any two universities, so I'd guess Texas as well.
My train of thought is to just think of when you go to the sports stores and what college shirts and hats do you ALWAYS see no matter where you are. Ohio State, Florida, Texas, Georgia, North Carolina, USC, Michigan are some choices. I don't know about which 5 though. Maybe Okie State with that millionaire dude. I also remember reading that most athletic programs actually lose money overall. Especially the ones without big time football programs.
I don't have actual "facts" to back this up, but I am pretty sure I remember Michael Bonnette saying Texas and Florida were. Their attendance and records in their sports speak for themselves. How about Bama, Terry? Are they? They have the football attendance, while also having insane gymnastics attendance numbers. That is bonus money no one else gets.
