That's bama folks man. Helps us make it through the bad times and lord knows we've had'em. I don't know much about McElwain personally I've just been reading up on him since he became a candidate. He seems like he knows his business but we'll see when the rubber meets the road. Saban's tough to work for, no doubt. I couldn't work for him. But as a bama fan I'm excited about the type of offense McElwain runs. Applewhite was a popular hire but I'm not sure Saban let him run HIS offense. He ran what Saban and Joe Pendry told him to run. So I don't blame Applewhite. With this new dude being much more seasoned and experience we'll probably see Saban do as he did with Jimbo and that's let him run the offense. Saban's history has shown he doesn't like to deal with the offense. He'd much rather contract that out. I think (and hope) McElwain is a guy he can do that with.
Good logical post Buzzard. It does seem like a good hire. Chemistry takes time, under Saban less time. Hope it works out for you guys.
What excites me about this hire is everything I've read over the past week on the type of offense this guy runs are the term(s) "Keeps defenses off balance" "multiple formations", "balance". There was a very good post on the Fresno St. board by a fan giving a summary of his offense. His offense is very very flexible and most important he's an EXCELLENT qb's coach. (spsst John Parker Wilson :insane
I think we'll have to agree to disagree on this one. You call it Bama spin, I call it rivals spin. He talked with one person about this job before this past weekend. Loeffler. There wasn't an offer on the board for anyone until this weekend. Brohm "pulled his name" from a race that didn't include him in the first place. You can call it what you will, but until a coach is offered a job he isn't turning a job down. I know Saban's record with Asst. coaches because I watched him when he was in BR. I'm not, in the least, worried about a shift or change of direction in asst. coaches. All good coaches do that. All good asst's move on to other opportunities. Throwing MA's name out there in this subject is a bit unfounded because I doubt you know what happened with MA. I've mentioned it on this forum, and I'll stand by what I've said about MA on this forum. Lance Thompson is also a coach that has worked for Saban on more than one occasion.
Bo Davis the S&C coach has also been on Saban's staff before. 2004 Kirby Smart coached DB's at LSU for Nick.
OC, hell, I'm hearing there are reports from radio stations out of Mobile that he may now be losing his DC Kevin Steele. Any truth to this Terry?
Don't go interjecting facts into a conversation here Rich. It's just not right. There is rumor out there being fed by message boards. I know he was consulted on what/who they needed to hire for an HC but he's not the next coach I think is going to leave. NFL calls, OL coach goes. If Steele is thinking about it, no one on the staff knows a damn thing about it.
There is only one local sports station in Mobile, and the smartest guy was Neal McCready...if that tells you anything.
