It's no secret that the SEC East was the power division for many years and it's also no secret that the disparity, between the East and West, has slowly dwindled over the last few years. With Bama emerging as an SEC West power and their beat down of UGA, Ole Miss with Nutt and their downing of Florida, Auburn beating UT, and LSU maintaining it's place as a powerhouse, I think there is little doubt that the SEC West is now decisively the power division and I don't see that changing anytime soon.
With all of the coaching changes, I think that things are just currently in the process of being realigned. Over the past 6 years, the East has won 3 SEC titles and the West has won the other 3 SEC titles. 2002 Georgia 2003 LSU 2004 Auburn 2005 Georgia 2006 Florida 2007 LSU The most significant change in the East has been Tennessee's mediocre performances in recent years while South Carolina is now stronger. In the West, Bama is now stronger while Arkansas is currently down a bit. Is the SEC West decisively the power division? Too many good teams and good coaches to say, "decisively," about anything in the SEC.
"Decisively" could have been left out, but all things considered, a very valid argument could be made that the West is now the stronger division.
Marginally, perhaps, but they (in no way) represent anything close to what Tennessee was when they were good. Not even close.
SEC West is the most powerful division in college football. Every coach with the exception of Croom and Petrina, who's in his first year, have been to the SECCG, with 3 of them winning the conference.
Oh, I agree with right now they're being about equal. I was just referring to Chip's assertion that South Carolina was similar right now to the Tennessee of old. And that simply isn't the case. Spurrier is probably really wishing he hadn't taken the USCe job.
clearly. he's just trying to spin it since the refs screwed UGA out of 31 first half points last night. hate when that happens. went from UGA to being the heavy chalk to suddenly being, 'wide open'.
I think it is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay to early to make any kind of determination about any of these teams. Alabama has one good win. We have a tough win in Auburn. Ole Miss (who in recent history has had UF's number) had a good away win. USC, UT, and MSU have performed in a mediocre matter, UGA got tazered and Vandy is undefeated. We got lots more football this year. UF and UGA were marred by their performances this weekend. Neither one of those teams is as bad as they played. There is a tremendous amount of parity top to bottom in the SEC now, and I think the difference between SEC Champ and SEC worst is remarkably slim, and will continue to get slimmer once Rkansas figures petrino out. The benefit is that the average sec fan gets to watch their team play in 8 kick @$$ games each year... and it only looks to be getting better!
C'mon, Mike. It's never too early to make a claim about something you have absolutely no prayer of being able to support with data. That's why we have preseason polls and - the horror - preseason bowl predictions! It's all fun and games, so let the opinions fly!
