You forgot the 0-8 of OSU v. the SEC in bowl games...I'm sure it was just a mistake in your part...That's ok cause we all make mistakes.
You know the only thing that stands out in what you posted? The Buckeyes are 0 -3 and soon to be 0 - 4.
Not to be confused with siding with wiseone after his may thread antics... but... Well if we're playing that game, OSU has a winning bowl record vs LSU, and y'all have a losing record in the sugar bowl. I don't think any of these stereotypes are going to have an effect on this game, though.
Sorry YOUR mistake...title of thread "SEC vs Big 10 myth" but thats ok cause we all make mistakes...just like you said.
there is no good way to compare the conferences. but for starters, comparing h2h bowl record is often misleading because usually the teams matched up didnt finish in the same place in conference. so for example, how much value would you give to a UGA-Purdue or Illinois-Bama match up this year? you never know what youre gonna get in bowl games---coaching changes, motivation. the only good measures are--- 1. bowl games that mean something---the only one really is for the NC. so, last years and this years. 2. non conf games matching up equivalent level teams---like OhSt-Tx. unfortunately we dont get those for SEC-B11. but----the sample size of these matchups is so small, and if you go back far enough to get the sample size big enough then the results are too old to be worthwhile. Perhaps the best measure is to compare coaches. SEC is the best hands down. B11 has tressel and the SEC has meyer, richt, saban, tubberville, spurrier and miles.
Big 10 all-time is ranked the #2 conference. From 1990-1999, they were ranked the #4 conference From 2000-2006, they were ranked the #5 conference SEC all-time is ranked the #1 conference. From 1990-1999, they were ranked the #2 conference. From 2000-2006, they were ranked the #2 conference. Overall since 2000 the conferences are almost split in the bowl games. This has been a fiery debate ever since the late 1800's because most of it was the North vs the South at that time and the rival and debate has lived on generations. This debate will go on forever, but since the last 50 years the SEC has been the stronger conference. That's why they chose to play the Pac 10 as a tradition instead of the SEC:hihi: . (this is my opinion)
Personally, conference debates are a little overrated to me, and I think most people use stupid facts that are irrelevant. So, Ill give you ones that matter and if you disagree you are wrong or USCVBALL. The SEC is generally known as the best conference. Here is why: It has nothing to do with bowl games. It has nothing to do with top 25 teams. In the SEC, minus MSU and Vandy every stadium is damn loud and intimidating. Winning on the road is almost impossible. Look at Vegas, the spreads will show you how hard it is to play compared to other conferences. You never get a week off after the OOC games at the beginning, plus we have a conference championship game. It is easy to get motivated for one game, like a bowl, but every week is tough. Look at how each team and how many rivals they can say they have...that only makes it harder. Lots of teams hate Ole Miss. How many hate Baylor (I mean I do, damn Baptists, but thats neither here nor there). Other conferences that use bowl games as a reference point to judge a whole conference should be banned and poked with pine straw for three hours. Big time math ups in prime time once a year do not make a conference, as Ohio St. should not be judged just for the Florida game. It goes both ways. You have to look at the whole conference and conference schedules beyond won-loss records. But that may negate someones point, so please dont include it.
I agree with a good part of your post. The thing that I'd disagree with is that the loudness of a stadium or how "intimidating" it is should not matter one whit if one team is superior. Ohio State played 3 night games on Saturday's against hostile and loud (Penn State which is fairly close to LSU in loudness: 122 db vs 124 db) and dominated each game. If your team is good, calm, focused and executes the stadium and crowd matters much less.
