Yes, but so did FLA. Besides the heads up DP in the 8th by us where FLA would have scored 2 more when the next batter gets his base hit, they also had bases loaded in 2 earlier innings. They probably stranded more than we did. Still, we had a chance to win that one. More timely hitting, and better relief pitching. Could probably say that in any loss, though.
I'll split the difference with you. Bad base running by the guy rounding third. Excellent play by Scvique and Laird. I'm sure the outfield is taught to back up plays, but not necessarily cover a base. And man, what a great job by Scvique. Chase the guy down and tag him with the ball, then make a perfect throw to Laird. If he throws it in the dirt, we would've found out if Stevenson was backing up Laird! Crazy, but well executed play by us all around.
People must also consider Lange had another in inning or two. The only reason he was pulled was to save him for the upcoming regional.
