As some of you may know, we keep a small database... mostly on Big Ten stuff... but, for your viewing pleasure, here's some stuff we pulled up on the SEC. It's based solely on regular season conference games since 1992, the year the SEC went to an 8 game regular season. It is just regular season games since 1992 (covering 16 years). It does not count your championship games. The "tidbits" are based on the premise that at 6-2 or better, a team is challenging for the title; at 5-3 in conference games, a team is upper tier; at 4-4 or worse in conference, a team is average "or worse". LSU: Tied with Auburn for longest current streak as the only two conference teams that have been 5-3 or better. Both teams have been 5-3 or better in regular conference games since the 2000 season (8 years). LSU's only other stretch of back to back winning seasons in conference play was 95, 96 and 97. Auburn: (see LSU) Auburn is tied with Bama and Florida as the only three teams who have posted two seasons of 8-0 in confernce play since 1992. Florida: Tied with Tennessee as the only two teams that have winning conference records in 15 of the 16 years. Florida's only non-winning conference record was 4-4 in 2004. Interestingly, Ron Zook was 16-8 in conference and Urban Meyer, in his first 3 years, is 17-7. Also, other than Zook's 4-4 record in 2004, Florida never posted a record of less than 6-2 in conference play since 1992... Urban Meyer is 5-3 in two of his three years at Florida. Alabama: Bama was 8-0 in conference in 1992 and 1994, 1993 they were 5-2-1, but forfeited the season. Granting them that 3 year run of consecutive winning seasons in conference play, they haven't been able to post back to back winning conference seasons since. (4-4 is not a winning season!) Tennessee: Their 3-5 conference record in 2005 is their only blemish on having winning seasons (in conference) since 1992. They also have the second best (Florida's first) in total conference wins since 1992. Georgia: Had a great run of winning seasons going since 1997 until their conference mark of 4-4 in 2006. Arkansas: Surprisingly, the Hogs have not had back to back winning seasons in conference since the 8 game schedule was initiated in 1992. Ole Miss: Have only had two seasons... 1992 and 2003... where they've had a winning record in league play. South Carolina: Their only back to back winning record seasons were 2000 and 2001. They've only had three winning seasons in conference play since 1992... the other in 2006. MSU, Vandy and Kentucky: Let's not even go there... it's "gloom, despair and agony on me"... or "on them" in this case.
