East Florida: Congrats Tennessee: They are going to be solid. Really good defense. UGA: Surprised Cox played the way he did. He wasnt terrible but he certainly couldnt get them over the hump. Questionable play calling and the defense looks alright. Better than last year. UK, Vandy: Pretty impressive wins. They generally struggle with these teams. Each have great CB's. I thought Larry Smith played pretty well. Vandy's Marve is one of the better LB's in the league. USC: Offense is terrible. Defense is solid. Garcia played the whole game so I guess that is a bonus. West Alabama: Defense is really good. Offense is inconsistent but there are play makers. Im just glad Tebow was not the one that was shot and played this weekend. Auburn: Offense played well. Just hard to tell what is is going to be like against better competition since we havent seen this staff before. Good game against LT, though. Arkansas: Didnt see the game. Seems like the offense did really well. Mississippi State: Now this was a fun game to watch. Youre watching Florida, but they are all drunk and ridiculously slow. Ole Miss: Played good football, then bad football, then terrible football, and then really good football. Should be some foreshadowing for their season. Thoughts.
After week one. It's hard to say. Way too many cup cakes. After week three we start seeing what & who is real.
Aside from UGA (for obvious reasons), I think that LSU had the biggest test in week 1. Yes, I realize that VT is supposedly a lot better than UW. However, I think VT's offense is pretty terrible, and UW poses more of a threat on that side of the ball. LSU also played in their house, which was 2,000 miles away from home, not at a neutral site just several hours down the road. I'm not saying that we played the best, I just think that we had a more difficult test, all things considered.
I was thinking similar to this. VT gets a lot of good press, Beamer has a great rep, but what was their last signature win? When Vick was still there? They usually have a good D, the O, not so good. I think they are usually overrated to start the year and then reality strikes. Wash. on the other hand was "assumed" to still be the 0-12 team from last year, but with their very good QB and RB available again and a new energetic coaching staff, they are much better than last years version, way underrated based on what I saw. I'll watch and see, and hope they win 8 games this year, which is the only way we'll know for sure that they were that good. Bama looked solid, excellent on defense and the backup tailback looked great. We'll have our hands full with them on the road.
Florida = A (took care of business as expected) Tennessee = A (definitely tougher this year) Vanderbilt = A (another banner year?) Kentucky = A (great start to the season) Bama = B+ (slightly erratic on both sides of the ball) Ole Miss = B (jekyl and hyde team as TB3 alluded to) Miss St. = B- (great start to the season) Arkansas = B- (Petrino has them going early on) Auburn = C+ (probably going to be a long year) LSU = C (needs to improve quickly) So. Carolina = C (where is the offense under Spurrier?) Georgia = C- (will be a long year)
