who do ya'll think will join the sec that can compete with the "pac-16" n the "big 14"? geaux tigers :tigereye:
Bringing the number of SEC teams up to 14 just presents more logistical problems with scheduling. I would, however, like to see the "permanent opponent" system scrapped and replaced with something like a 2-team rotation. Ditto for the location of the SECCG, rotate it among two different sites. Make no mistake, this conference shifting is all about making the Pac-10 and Big-10 more competitive with the SEC. As another poster has previously pointed out here, the Big-10 is very top heavy with three top programs (Ohio St., Penn St., Iowa), and everyone else. The Pac-10 has seen more parity in recent years, but with USC fading a little, there's no truly dominant team, and they need fresh blood. Increasing the size of those conferences to 12 would also force them into a championship game, which would help them in BCS standings. What will be interesting to see is how the Big 12 will react to being raided by everyone else.
i would love to see texas and oklahoma thats the best case scenerio but i dont think that will ever happen. miami, flordia state, clemson, and or virginia tech wouldnt be a bad match for the sec geaux tigers:tigereye:
Where TX goes, so goes AtM. They will not give that up. And TX is the university that is the most desirable to all these conferences. The SEC will not have the easiest path to the BCSNC because of it's annual juggernauts, but it will probably be the most lucrative. Interesting article on where TX might go. Texas will likely have pick of Big 12, Big Ten, Pac-10, SEC - Andy Staples - SI.com
the thing is, by the obvious attempts by pretty much everyone of cherry picking just a few teams from the lil dozen, seems obvious the conference has gotten weak and is just a handful of strong teams carrying the rest of the conference. mainly, texas and oklahoma. nebraska is probably back on the rise, but the rest of the conference.... not so much. a few others arent stinkers, but other conferences arent gonna go out of their way to get em. but where texas goes, atm will likely have to go. and to get ou, a conference will likely have to take osu also.
Given that the Rose Bowl has always tried to maintain that it's the National Championship game, riddle me this. Say the Pac10 expands by adding 6 Big12 teams and has a playoff game. The Big10 adds Missouri, Nebraska and Rutgers. Texas wins the Pac16,and Nebraska wins the Big 14. and meet in the Rose Bowl. Where does that leave the SEC?
