A few interesting things from Rivals about our SEC brethren. Tennessee has 13 verbals with only 2 from their home state. Tennessee's reach is just strange. They have guys from all over the map, NJ, PA, CA, OH, MS, GA, VA, FL, etc. Auburn already has 20 guys, but as usual there are not a lot of highly rated recruits, with only four players higher than 3 stars. Georgia has 12 verbals with a good ratio of 4 star players and FL has 7 and also looks like they will have highly rated players as usual. Nick Saban is not doing as well this year in terms of quality with 10 players, but with only 4 higher than 3 stars.
Bama will get a bunch of highly rated players over the next several months, but won't match last year's haul. It will still be a very good class though. Tubs is bringing in a typical AU class, a bunch of great athletes that he will put in the right positions, especially on defense. And while they won't end up in the top 10 they'll still end up solidly in the top 20 only a few points from being a top ten class. Tubs knows what kind of players fit his system more than sny other coach I think. It is amazing how well UT recruits around the country, Gotta give Fulmer credit for his recruiting prowess as he is located in somewhat of a poor producing state ( and most of the top talent from Tenn. is way over in the Memphis area usually) but still pulls in top talent. Thank goodness Tenn. is not as fertile as Louisiana. UGA is doing the same ole same ole under Richt, cherry picking a little more than usual this year due to such limited openings.
:geaux::crystal::helmet: Hasn't 'Bama already lost several players from this past recruiting class? Not sure, but thought I read that on a post somewhere. Also, didn't Saban sign something like 31 players in this past class? If so and assuming that the class has suffered some casualties, the Gumpsters may not be looking at a large class of recruits this year. Agree with above comments on Tennessee and Auburn. Fulmer and Tuberville always seem to come up with a lot of great talent year in and year out. The SEC seems to be full of coaches who are great recruiters. Spurrier has done pretty well over the years and Nutt is underated a bit. Petrino proved at Louisville he could recruit. No question that Urban Meyer is one of the top recruiters, although his methods have been questioned. Having said all of that, I think they all have their work cut out for them this year if they want to beat CLM!! Geaux Tigers! :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:
tenn. borders tons of states. off the top of my head--KY, MO, AR, MS, AL, GA, NC, VA. any more? very close to IL and WV
It's still very early in the recruiting year. These guys have not even started their senior year yet! Bama will be fine when it's all said and done. More than likely in the Top 10 or very close to it. Tennessee always pulls in the athletes but seems to do the least with them. For me, the real surprise is Croom's class so far. Nine 3*, and four 4*. Seems like everybody is getting their classes out of the way early this year. And all Croom needs is just on more 4* or 5* to make his best recruiting class to date. Bama really missed the boat when they passed on this guy.
Bama losing some of their recruits was a foregone conclusion the day all of the letters were received. Nothing has happened that wasn't known by their coaches and most of their fans that I know of. It's still a hell of a class. Saying Tenn. does the least with their recruits is pretty mindboggling to me. I know they've had a couple of bad seasons for them and a few really bad bowl games, but overall they have been remarkably consistent under Fulmer.
For Tenn. to continue to send as many or more players to the NFL, yet fail to win even a SECC since '98 is mind boggling to me. The fact that Fulmer is on the "hot seat" almost yearly, is testament to how they have underperformed.
:geaux::crystal::helmet: Good points, and that fact that LSU has contributed to the Vols SECC drought ('03 & 07) makes it better! The wins in Knoxville in '06 and the SECC in '07 were sweet!! :geauxtige:champs::LSU231:
