1. LSU (projected 1st) 5. Alabama (projected 3rd) 9. Georgia 10. Florida (projected 4th) 11. South Carolina 14. Arkansas 16. Tennessee 19. Auburn 22. Mississippi State 42. Kentucky 47. Ole Miss 68. Vanderbilt
I'm surprised that Ole Miss isn't doing better based on last year's promising turn-around. And I thought Nutt might be more of a force in recruiting. Strange that with all their troubles, Miss State is doing much better in recruiting.
Good usually seasons affect the next season's class, the only thing they'll get from this year is a small, late push. Kind of like what I hope Florida will get (probably adding Jenkins, Evans, Jones - giving Richardson something to think about, etc). And Mississippi State has kids excited about the offensive coordinator who designed the offense of two National Championship teams, especially this year's.
This does appear to be the case more often than not (i.e., the lag time for recruiting success following on the field success). Mississippi State is doing quite well and is very surprising, given the fact they had a coaching change. Credit goes to Mullen. I can't remember where they stood back in early December, so maybe most of the credit goes to Croom up to that point.
scout's rankings: 1. Ohio State 2. LSU 3. North Carolina 4. Texas 5. USC 6. Oklahoma 7. Georgia 8. Texas A&M 9. Alabama 10. Penn State 11. Stanford 12. Arkansas 13. Miami (Fl) 14. Auburn 15. Florida 16. South Carolina 17. West Virginia 18. Michigan 19. UCLA 20. Mississippi State
Scout must be extremely generous giving out 4 and 5 star rankings, because Florida's class seems far more impressive on Scout, yet they're ranked five spots lower there than on Rivals...
I believe Ole Miss only has commitments from 3 out of the top 30 in Mississippi. Mississippi State has 6 out of the top 10 and unless Ole Miss gets Patterson they will be shutout. That's terrible.
Nutt never was a great recruiter at Boise or Arkansas. He would land a few really good players from time to time, but no top ranking classes. His strength has always been motivation. He can get more 4 star performances out of kids that were low or unranked coming out of high school than most college coaches. If his extra curricular activities don’t sink him in he will continue to be moderately successful at Ole Miss. However, I am surprised that State is doing so well in a year when their entire coaching staff turns over. It will be interesting to see how the Egg Bowl turns out this year.
