I'm not one to blame officiating as the only reason a team loses; however, the officiating last night is amongst the worst I've seen in 40+ years of watching college football. Between the BS PF call on Alexander, to the no-call on the Jennings facemask, the no-calls on PI at the end of the game, AND Saban talking the officials into picking up a flag on pre-snap penalty, I just don't know what to think anymore. The SEC's reputation is getting worse by the year, yet nothing changes. Without getting into the SEC HQ in Birmingham conspiracy theories (although one could certainly believe it be true given the favorable calls that Alabama and Auburn have benefitted from), I have a question about the officials themselves... I thought I read somewhere last night that Tom Ritter is a Bama alum and booster? Is this true? If so, I can't think of a more blatant, and egregious conflict of interest. Bottom line -- officials should not be working games of their alma maters, or schools in which they have an interest such as being a booster, etc. Is it not possible to get unaffiliated, and unbiased refs to work games in which they have no ties to? I ask this question about Ritter due to his "stellar" reputation as a "fair" official.
Sucks, I couldn't see it but did Quinn make that catch over the middle? And the touchback? Looked down at the 1 to me. 1 holding call on numerous holds, and multiple no calls on PI's.
You forgot the original call of our TD being called out. Luckily overturned. But they next screw job was unreviewable (the punt that did not go into the endzone).
Yes, those too... And the "catch" by the Bama player on the game-tying drive. Looked like it was trapped, and I thought those were automatically reviewed?
That did look like a catch by Quinn. Of course, the lack of holding calls goes without saying when it comes to Bama.
i knew before the replay that punt wasnt in the endzone. not sure why it couldnt be reviewed. but they showed the dickbag back judge make the call and not the guy on the spot. i dont blame refs because its bush but its commonplace in the gump games. yall called it before the game so yall can complain after. it happened. again.
Yet you have people like TerryP on here who keep trying to say the gumps don't get home cooking calls. Almost could see nick's check hanging out of Ritter's back pocket. That damn face mask on Jennings had me screaming so loud I am pretty sure I scared my kids. Freaking face mask got pulled off, seems like that would make the refs take notice. The number of holds, face masks, and personal fouls no calls against the gumps were to many to count. Frustrating.
The touchback call was blown. LSU was in position to make the play and the referee right on top of it was waiting it out. But the side judge, who's sight of the ball had to have been blocked by at least one LSU player, blew the ball dead. I'll give the first guy the benefit of the doubt and assume that once the other guy ruled it a touchback, he couldn't overrule him.
No, I think the close ref on the touchback call laid his beanbag down in the endzone so he was going to call it a touchback as well. It was a total conspiracy.
