I attended the LSU vs AL game... BAMA fans say we're rude---"Hello. Pot...meet kettle." I live in Volunteer Nation---the word on the streets is that Alabama "deserves" to be in the NCG. Given that LSU makes it---we still have a long way to go. We have to beat Arkansas---a very GOOD Arkansas and then go on to win the SEC Championship game. Please, please, please tell me why BAMA would "deserve" to go to the BCS CG without having to play a 13th game? I'm not denying they're good---they wouldn't be 2nd if they weren't. However, they lost to us in the regular season. I just want us to win out and get the opportunity to play. I'm actually cheering Oklahoma on right now....I don't want them to lose out!
Deserving something is subjective. They look at things as Bama fans, we look at things as LSU fans. That is why there is a BCS system. The only way they really deserve to go in my opinion is if they are in the top 2 of the final BCS rankings. I would guess that almost all objective people would say that if it comes down to having to pick between 2 great teams (say LSU and Bama), to play another different team, then the winner of the head to head game would get the nod, (especially if they beat that other team on their turf and beat more ranked opponents in that season). Now, in another scenario, if it comes down to Bama and another team having to play against LSU, Bama has the argument of being the best one loss because that loss was in overtime to the best team in the nation. However, another team, say VATech, if they were to win out, would have the argument of having avenged their only loss (Clemson) in their conference championship game. The computers would like Bama's strength of schedule, but on the other hand, the voters would like VATech winning their conference and avenging their only loss. It would be close. Where you are going wrong is that you are trying to have Bama fans look at things rationally. Good luck with that!
Remember, the system was set up to match up the top 2 teams in the country. It was intentionally not set up to match up the top 2 conference winners in the country. Whether or not we like that, is up for discussion. But the fact that it was set up that way is not.
