There are some outlets that post full length videos of press conferences. LSU has made these free for the last couple of years, something I have really enjoyed. But for the schools who didn't, it was nice to be able to catch the press conferences from some other site.

If the SEC wants to be the one who makes the press conference available, OK. But to remove all access just seems counter productive. Also it sounded like they wanted to limit even 2 to 3 minute excerpts from local news, and that is something that is beyond pointless.

It will never fly for long. I expect the SEC will concentrate on high-quality proprietary footage and will police commercial users only. The low-end grainy stuff on the typical fan-based YouTube video ain't worth their trouble and is actually free publicity that will send some paying customers to the legitimate sites for the good stuff.

They just don't want third parties making money off their product.

For the record Youtube does allow users to upload high-quality and HD content, so it's possible someone could steal the good stuff and upload it there, but I don't know how difficult that would be.

I don't have a problem with the SEC making money off premium content for those willing to pay for it. I do have a problem with them attempting to monopolize all content, and dictating to local stations and news outlets what and when they can air/post it.

HD content on youtube has been available for at least 6 months now. I made a test video back in April, but it was from a 480i source. The HD option is there to click on or you can add &fmt=22 to open in HD directly.

My PC doesn't really have the horsepower to make it worthwhile, and it was a pain to make. But HD is an option on youtube...

Here's a much better example of HD from ESPN

Still a work in progress but there are a a handful of old LSU games available.

Just scroll down on the video menu.
