i thought Beede was going to get it. but really, you could have had like 5 Co-Pitchers of the Year this year. it's like how, during the SECT, they put a graphic on screen with the top 3 leading candidates for SEC Pitcher of the Year (Nola and Stanek weren't even on it), and they had to explain, that it's not just these 3 that are leading candidates, you also have Nola, Stanek, etc. i mean how do you pick and choose who is the best between these guys...

--that's the most 1st-Teamers (5) in LSU baseball history, the previous best was 4 in 1990

--the total of 6 on the All-SEC team ties the 1990, 1996, 2001, 2003 teams, and is one short of the 1986 team that had 7

--that's only the 2nd time in LSU history that we've had our entire infield named to the All-SEC team, the other time was Skip's last year as coach in 2001...

    2001
    1st Team -- Wally Pontiff, 3B (.347, 7 HR)
    1st Team -- Mike Fontenot, 2B (.339, 14 HR)
    2nd Team -- Ryan Theriot, SS (.353, 1 HR)
    2nd Team -- Bryan Moore, 1B (.373, 7 HR)

    2013
    1st Team -- Alex Bregman, SS (.378, 5 HR)
    1st Team -- Mason Katz, 1B (.377, 14 HR)
    1st Team -- Christian Ibarra, 3B (.335, 6 HR)
    2nd Team -- JaCoby Jones, 2B (.290, 5 HR...over last 11 games: .450)

    Wow...way to go, Katz!

Oh...and the All-SEC selection is pretty cool, too...

Yeah, I'll go ahead and admit that I didn't dig very deep. A 1.4 ERA is just phenomenal, and I kinda jumped on that. Looks like Nola had the most all-around solid year, though. When did we start getting all of these great pitchers?

our own SEC coach, Mainieri, awarded two more awards to LSU baseball players:

the Wally Pontiff Jr. Scholar Athlete Award went to senior Mason Katz, who is a member of the SEC Academic Honor Roll, and was named to the 2013 SEC Community Service Team last week. This is what Michael Hollander (who was drafted by the Rangers after 4 years at LSU) said when Mainieri awarded him the Wally Pontiff Jr. Scholar Athlete Award back in 2008: “I would rather receive this than the Golden Spikes Award,” Hollander said. “It’s such an honor. ... To receive something like this is a great honor." (Hollander was named 2nd Team All-SEC, named to the SEC Community Service Team, and three-time SEC Academic Honor Roll....like Katz, Hollander is a graduate of Jesuit High School in New Orleans)

The Skip Bertman Award (which was presented by Skip Bertman himself) went to senior Raph Rhymes. The award goes to the player who best exemplifies the spirit of the LSU Baseball program.

    Mainieri:
“It’s a great pleasure for me as a coach to honor two young men who have meant so much to our program,” Mainieri said. “They epitomize everything student-athletes should be. They are excellent players, but they are even greater human beings who demonstrate the merits of leadership and a strong work ethic.”

honestly, thinking about it, you're probably right. the SEC stats page goes back to 2001, and from 2001-2013, ONLY TWO SEC pitchers had an ERA lower than Stanek's 1.40: two pitchers for 2011 South Carolina, starter Michael Roth (1.06) and bullpen guy John Taylor (1.14)

and when it comes to SEC-only ERA, the SEC stats have SEC-only stats for 2002 and 2006-2013, and during those 8 years, NOBODY has come even close to Stanek's ridiculous 0.97 ERA in SEC-only play this season.... the next-best was Michael Roth in 2011 with 1.39

so year, Stanek probably got robbed

anyway, usually the picture is a lot more clear. for ex, here's how it looked for last year's SEC Pitcher of the Year winner, as well as LSU's last SEC Pitcher of the Year winner...

2012 Chris Stratton, Miss St (11-2 record, 6-1 SEC)
    #1 in SEC -- ERA (2.38)
    #1 in SEC -- SEC-only ERA (2.05)
    #1 in SEC -- SEC-only opposing bat avg (.216)
    #1 in SEC -- SEC-only innings pitched (74.2)
    #1 in SEC -- SEC-only strikeouts (88)
    #1 in SEC -- SEC-only wins (6)
    #2 in SEC -- wins (11)
    #2 in SEC -- strikeouts (127)
    #3 in SEC -- innings pitched (109.2)
#4 in SEC -- opposing bat avg (.211)

2009 Louis Coleman, LSU (14-2 record, 8-1 SEC)
    #1 in SEC -- ERA (2.93)
    #1 in SEC -- wins (14)
    #1 in SEC -- SEC-only wins (8)
    #1 in SEC -- innings pitched (129.0)
    #2 in SEC -- strikeouts (142)
    #2 in SEC -- SEC-only innings pitched (77.1)
    #3 in SEC -- SEC-only strikeouts (84)
    #4 in SEC -- SEC-only ERA (3.49)
    #4 in SEC -- SEC-only opposing batting avg (.221)
#4 in SEC -- opposing batting avg (.224)

That goose egg in Nola's loss column says it all for me.
