I agree but there is a difference in expectations between that era and now. Dale brought success and that was compared to many years of mediocrity. He had some bad years but we still had hope based on that string of success starting with Macklin and Scales. After Shack left we went into a tail spin and we haven't been consistent since. We again have a nucleus of good players and some talented recruits. If we can fit in a good coach we can regain a consistent competitive level of play. Judging from our last two games maybe Butch is the man.
As much as it pains me to agree with a Gator fan, you're dead on, 100% right on this. In fact, it's already started with shallow, ignorant comments (it doesn't rise to the level of analysis, IMO) on Around the Horn and PTI the day Brady was fired. The only thing they knew about our program was the FF 2 years ago, and Wilbon made some comment like "now LSU has to be UCLA now with a winning season every year?" These guys clearly didn't know the first thing about how our program fared under Brady. I can understand another school's fan not being intimately familiar with our program since the average fan wouldn't be, but I expect a much higher standard out of the "journalists" appearing on ESPN, who should at least do some homework before bemoaning how LSU gave Brady the heave-ho in the middle of the season.
dale had very little success once it became common for players to leave early for the nba. dales success was with experienced players. he had success after williams left but cj, stanley and shaq leaving made it tough for him to do well. brady had success with inexperienced players and would have had a lot more if stro, bass, tt and glen had hung around longer.
Thank you for this information and I can agree with this although I still don't know or care what the media thinks about anything, its all hearsay. Btw, I agree with you that LSU can have a successful mens basketball program for various reasons. One is that we play in the west not the east, the west is pretty much up for grabs year after year with no dominate school. We all know the east would be much harder to conquer.
What is absolutely insane about those comments is that they don't make sense. LSU was 8-5 going into SEC play during the 2005-2006 season with out of conference games against WVU, OSU, UConn, Houston, Cincinnati, and Northern Iowa. We lost every one of those games except for WVU and then proceeded to steamroll the conference on our way to a 14-2 league mark.
