I'm actually surprised how wide spread the verbals for Ole Miss have turned out to be. Same can be said for Vandy, really. But, it isn't as shocking considering UT has always had to recruit a lot out of state.

Coach O may be despised/ridiculed by many especially in the SEC but he is a recruiting machine. He throws out a pretty wide net. I noticed only Ole Miss and Tennessee were able to pull a recruit out of CA.

LSU has been getting more recruits from Georgia recently. In fact on this list, everybody is getting Georgia recruits. Is Georgia that loaded in high school football talent?

Coach O has 20 recruits but I wouldn't call him a recruiting machine. According to Rivals, his 20 recruits rank just under a 2 average. Now although I understand these rankings aren't a true indication of talent, I don't think his current list is anything special. I give him 1-2 more seasons before he's fired.

You can beat Stanford, Oregon, Arizona, and Mississippi State will marginal talent but he won't have much success against LSU, AU, Alabama, TN, Arkansas, SC, UGA, or Florida.

BTW...his CA recruit doesn't currently have a ranking.

West coasters don't go to the deep south regulary. Most find the climate oppressive or they fear redneck stereotypes. And its a long way from Mama.

LSU has pulled an occasional Clausen or two from California, Hell, every coach since McClendon has cast a wide net in his first year or two and recruited from "out west" or "up nawth." But they all quickly realized that the expense of recruiting that far away was not paying off in enough recruits to make it worthwhile.

LSU has been most successful in recruiting by concentrating in its core area: Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Florida and Georgia.

What's a little shocking to me in all of this is Florida with 5 commits? With the amount of "the sky is falling" attitude from LSU fans about our 15 commits, what's the deal with Florida having 5? Won the national championship, Urban Meyer, etc.?

What gives? Is it that the talent there is too tough to beat and recruits are staying away? Is it Florida being picky? Just seems odd. Given that LSU and Florida right now are kings of the SEC, Florida should have more commits, shouldn't they?

They loaded up the last two years and it has to scare off recruits.

Plus, Miami and Florida State have plenty of playing time to offer, with new coaches, which creates that "spark" (until, they start losing).

Florida is in on a lot of top prospects...they'll be okay. Probably a top 8-14 class.

This is a good year for Georgia talent. Brice Butler committed to USC last weekend.

I agree that most West Coast recruits tend to stay in the West which is why I noted the Vols and Rebels. I also agree that weather plays a big factor but fearing redneck stereotypes is just not something I can buy into. Being a long way from Mama works for Southern boys too. Just ask James Wilson. And in all fairness, lots of kids regardless of location want to play in front of family so if travel creates a burden then it may play into their decision and there's nothing wrong with that.

I'd say Coach O doesn't have much choice on the wide net. With the competition for players in the South and the powerhouse programs and successful coaches, I'm sure it's frustrating to always get the "no".

No hes not. He just has to take so many guys because half of them end up not qualifying.
