Exactly. The topsy turvy SEC, and in particular the SEC West. While everyone was down on the SEC West, and talked about how 3 or 4 teams could make the NCAAs from the SEC East, only Tennessee is left. To see MOO St, Auburn and LSU in the SEC semis is a testament to the ballers in the West. And, after today, I wouldn't be surprised if it's LSU and Auburn from the SEC to go from the Big Dance to go with Tennessee. Florida and USC are squarely on the bubble, although what does their RPI look like now?
Tennessee - 22 :huh: LSU - 33 Florida - 52 Auburn - 57 South Carolina - 58 State - 74 Kentucky - 78 Tennessee further proves how poor the RPI is. All you have to do is play the hardest schedule in the nation. You don't have to win any of those games, as long as you just play them.
Thanks for the listing. The tricky thing about college hoops is it's hard to make it objective though. You have to "reward" teams for playing hard non-conference games and then you see how they do in a tournament format. No doubt, I am very happy with LSU's SECC. But, Tennessee has a good record in the SEC, they beat Gtown and Marquette and lost respectable games against Memphis, Kansas and Gonzaga, and they may win the SEC tourney and LSU is out. They beat some decent non-conference teams, and LSU didn't. LSU beat Tennessee, true enough, on their court in a nailbiter. So, how do you slice it? I don't mind the fact that Tennesse is rewarded for that. The key for CTJ and Tiger fans is that we're in. We're not in the situation of Florida, Auburn and South Carolina's season being over and they're just sitting around waiting for their fate to be determined by a selection committee--how do you choose one of these three? I think they'll end up picking who's playing well most recently. If Florida gets in, it's based upon their name and their players (one quality win vs. Washington). If Auburn gets in, it's rewarding them for playing good ball at the right time. I feel sort of bad for USC, b/c they beat UF and had a great turn around season, but again, didn't really play anyone worth mentioning. Now, you've got Miss St., who as much as Rick Stansbury would like to plead, would still IMO have to win it all, to get in. But, they are playing well now. And, if they got in, they would probaby help the SEC and guarantee 4 teams. Throw the analysis out. It's tourney time and it's put up or shut up time for the Tigers.
I'm fine with rewarding the Marquette team, they are pretty good. But the problem is all year UT was getting a lot of credit for beating GTown. They are 16-14. A name does a lot for basketball.
MSU up by 2, Tennessee's ball w/ 12.4 seconds left. Vols at the line for 1 and 1, makes the first. MSU knocks the rebound out, Tennessee's ball down by 1 w/ 9.6 to go. Tennessee can't get the ball in, doesn't get the time out called in time. 5 second call, MSU's ball after they take a timeout! This is nuts. MSU steps out, Tennessee's ball now. Tennessee tries to get the ball back to the inbound passer, MSU steals it. Now it's MSU's ball  MSU gets fouled, makes both free throws. Tennessee gets off a 3, no good. Congratulations Mississippi State! Another SEC team to the dance...
