The 4th place team in the SEC West will end up in 8th place in the SEC and make it to the SEC tournament. If LSU sweeps MSU and has a 14-16 SEC record: MSU drops to 13-17 and is out and LSU moves up to at least 5th in the West. If Ole Miss gets swept by Arkansas or only wins 1, then LSU is in. If Ole Miss sweeps Arkansas and drops them to 13-17, then LSU is in. The only way we do not make it to the SEC tournament at 14-16 is if Ole Miss wins 2/3 from Arkansas and all 3 teams are 14-16. Even if Alabama and or Auburn lose 2/3 to drop to 14-16, I just don't see how LSU can win any tiebreaker if our 0-3 record against Arkansas gets included. If Alabama gets swept by South Carolina or Auburn gets swept by Tennessee dropping either Alabama or Auburn to 13-17, then LSU could survive Ole Miss taking 2/3 from Arkansas. If LSU takes 2 of 3 from MSU and LSU ends up with a 13-17 record: MSU would be 14-16 and finish in front of us. LSU would need at least 2 other teams to have 17 SEC losses to make it a 3 team tiebreaker, then win that 3 team tiebreaker If Ole Miss drops 2 of 3 to Arkansas, they would fall to 13-17 and LSU would win any tiebreaker over Ole Miss. One other team would have to drop to 13-17, but we would still have to win the tiebreaker. If Alabama gets swept by South Carolina and falls to 13-17, Alabama would still win a 3 team tiebreaker If Auburn gets swept by Tennessee and falls to 13-17, Auburn would still win a 3 team tiebreaker If both Alabama and Auburn get swept, Alabama and Auburn would win a 4 team tiebreaker If Arkansas gets swept by Ole Miss, Ole Miss moves out of the tiebreaker at 15-15 but Arkansas at 13-17 still finishes in front of us in a tiebreaker. Basically If LSU doesn't sweep MSU, I can't come up with any combination where LSU moves up to 4th place in the West. Not even 1. If LSU takes 2/3 from MSU I do think that LSU still makes it to the NCAA tournament, but I don't see how 2/3 gets us to the SEC tournament.
All scores are final 1) Florida: 21-7 3) Vanderbilt: 20-8 3) South Carolina: 20-8 4) Georgia: 16-12 5) Alabama: 14-14 9) Auburn: 13-15 9) Arkansas: 13-15 9) Mississippi State: 13-15 9) Ole Miss: 13-15 LSU: 12-16 Kentucky: 7-21 Tennessee: 6-22 Thursday, May 19 Auburn 2 at Tennessee 5, FINAL Kentucky 6 at Florida 9, FINAL Ole Miss 2 at Arkansas 1, FINAL South Carolina 1 at Alabama 2, FINAL LSU 17 at Mississippi State 1, FINAL Vanderbilt 4 at Georgia 5, FINAL
This kind of reminds me of what needed to happen for us to get into the BCS championship a few tears back.
LSU is out of the SEC tournament Clinched a spot 1) South Carolina: 21-8, win today and they are first 1) Florida: 21-8, must win and have South Carolina lose 1) Vanderbilt: 21-8, must win and have both South Carolina and Florida lose 4) Georgia: 16-12, 28-27 overall. Going to SEC, but has to stay above .500 to reach NCAA 5) Alabama: 14-15, will win tiebreaker even with a loss 5) Auburn: 14-15, will win tiebreaker even with a loss Fighting to get in 7) Mississippi State: 14-15, in with a win, lose and it could come down to % against #1 seed 9) Arkansas: 13-15, in with a sweep, lose 1 and it could come down to % against #1 seed 9) Ole Miss: 13-15, in with a sweep, lose 1 and it could come down to % against #1 seed Out of the tournament: LSU: 12-17 Kentucky: 8-21 Tennessee: 6-23 Friday's games Ole Miss at Arkansas, postponed, DH Saturday Auburn 13 at Tennessee 4 Kentucky 14 at Florida 1 Vanderbilt 9 at Georgia 3 LSU 5 at Mississippi State 6 South Carolina 6 at Alabama 3
Clinched a spot 1) South Carolina: 22-8, first place by tiebreaker 2) Vanderbilt: 22-8, Needs Florida lose to be second 3) Florida: 21-8, Win and they are 2nd 4) Georgia: 16-14 28-28 overall. Also, Georgia has to win 3 SEC tournament games before they get eliminated to finish the overall season better than .500. If UGA does not make it, then LSU is the 8th eligible team from the SEC.
being 9th in the SEC is the worst knock on LSU's NCAAT chances, and even that doesn't look that bad. when the committee looks at, they're going to see: 14-16 14-16 14-16 13-17 13-17
they are also going to see that our out-of-conference record is 23-3 (with the 3 losses to ULL, NSU, and Princeton). and that includes 3 games against Cal State Fullerton, who is currently ranked Top Ten compare to the out-of-conference record of Florida, a top 5 team: 19-7, with the losses to Georgia Southern (0-7), Jacksonville University (2-11), Central Florida twice (6-8, 3-4), FSU three times (1-3, 2-5, 3-5) LSU has the 2nd-best out-of-conference record in the SEC .957 (22-1) Vandy .885 (23-3) LSU .875 (21-3) Arkansas .846 (22-4) South Carolina .800 (20-5) MSU .750 (18-6) Tenn .731 (19-7) Florida .680 (17-8) Kentucky .692 (18-8) Bama .680 (17-8) Ole Miss .577 (15-11) Auburn .462 (12-14) Georgia
