Just saw the AP poll and 3 of the top 5 are SEC teams, has that ever happened before? It's unfortunate that we have to beat each other up in the SECCG, would really like to see 2 SEC teams in the championship deservingly
No two teams from the same conference should EVER be in the BCSNCG...EVER. This includes the OSU UM fiasco two years ago...OSU beat UM fair and square. Take the best CC from another conference. There is always going to be a "best" team from a conference...there is no reason to take two from a conference. This year, look for the Big XII or PSU. USC will like crap up on a patsy again. So, IOW, the BCSNCG is between the following options: SEC: LSU, UGA, UF, and, ugh, UA (for the moment, at least). vs. BIG XII: Mizzou, OU or BIG TEN: PSU. Just depends on how the Big XII do against each other and if PSU runs the conference like they should (OSU, give me a break..they are crap this year...as is UM. UI could be a slight challenge, and MSU is proving to be formidable than past years...)
Overstatement. I don't think it will happen, but to say that it shouldn't ever happen is like saying you're not interested in the two best teams playing in the game. At least three of the 12 SEC teams could've beaten up on OSU last year in that game. An LSU/Georgia game would've been much more fun to watch.
I agree. I understand the likihood is next to zero based on the conference schedule and the unwritten rule that you must win your conference to compete in the BCS Championship Game (I know this is not always the case. See OU in 2003.) But I would LOOOOOOVE to see an all SEC BCSCG!! My conspiracy theory- If LSU and either UGA or UF go undefeated and meet in the SECCG as top ranked teams. And LSU wins. And USC, OU and Mizzou fall to an unranked opponent. And the stars align. And the world stops turning. And the media supports the match-up. And the powers that be agree that the two schools should play for the crystal trophy. And there are no major protests... then maybe?
I agree. For the past two years, the National Championship has been played in Atlanta almost a month before the post-season exhibition match against an overmatched arbitrary out-of-conference team. That could very well become a trend.
Going back to the 70s? That must be your year of birth in your moniker, eh? Were they called the Big Eight Conf. then?
I tend to agree with PSU, at least in terms of the way I-A is currently structured (i.e., no playoff). Think about it, the SECCG winner goes to the BCSNCG, then who is the 2nd team? If the SECCG loser is "the 2nd best team in the country" that would lead to a rematch of the SECCG in the BCSNCG. Is that the game we really want to see? I love the SEC as much as the rest of you, but I would prefer to see our SECCG winner punk some other team in some other conference. In particular, it is clear that this decade may close without the best game in CFB ever to be played in this period: USC v. LSU. I think everyone wants to see that game, and it's getting late for that to happen. It looks like USC is going to just sit at the top of the polls all season long with their weak schedule. Let's just hope that whoever wins the SEC can meet up with them and settle things a bit.
If they truly are the two best teams in the nation, YES. They deserve it. Same in baseball. I want to see the two best teams, the two most deserving teams in the final game. I don't care if they come from the same conference or even the same state. Truth is I would rather see a close re-match in a title game than a blow out.
