It seems he is attempting to stop politically motivated criminal probes when there is no complaint or apparent crime committed. This would stop 'Star Chamber' type prosecutions as political revenge.

And for the record, all a politician has to say is it's politically motivated, this is bullshit. He's trying to save his own crooked ass.

I thought red would be the first to say it

Works both ways. Both sides will be crying about it being politically motivated Even if Broomhillary got caught red handed stangling puppies she would say the investigation was a politically motivated right wing conspiracy. And red would agree. His love is so great he won't even blame her for breaking up the Beatles by carpet munching with Yoko

It will also stop legitimate probes of politicians committing crimes. This should be left to judges to decide.

Agree it has the potential to stop legitimate probes for sure.
However judges should not have any hand in investigation or prosecution. I think traditional investigation and prosecution of crime in an open environment is the best. Judges and the judicial branch are not supposed to have a stake in the operation of Justice but are arbiters of the evidence and make judgements on its presentation pro and con.

Not in investigations, but they should be the ones to decide toss out a politically motivated charge, not the politicians themselves.
