should say for lsu fans toward bama fans, but i doubt i will get much support in this argument. i have a feeling this writer grew up a leon lett and chris webber fan. sure it is not just a mini-meltdown? as usual, i have no pronlem with people that write articles like this but have a big problems with ones that try to spin things to support arguments...re) major
I wouldn't even go that far (re: mini-meltdown.) Using him as an example makes sense because it wasn't a secret that he had a hard time with the dedication required in his position under Saban. But, what is being left out is why the hours were a problem...of course, that would ruin the premise of the "unraveling" assertion. Middleton did a great job, no doubt. I felt for him knowing how his time was pressed and the stress he was under with the job combined with dealing with his wife as she's battling MS. To say his plate full is an understatement. His move to Duke make a hell of a lot of sense with the medical facilities available (one of the reasons Tampa Bay let him out of his contract there were the medical facilities for his wife in Birmingham) and what Cut requires of his staff members. The rest of the story with Middleton is just ignored by this writer. When Bobby Williams was hired to replace him it was an upgrade for the position. (I say upgrade in terms of recruiting combined with the past experience working with Saban.) Now, we have a situation where last season people were talking about no one wanting to work with Saban and Williams name was tossed out there continually. Now, we have Williams making yet another appearance on one of Saban's staffs. I see some continue to talk about Major's replacement...but that story is like one of those buried on page 5 or 6 in the sports section. It's not that big of a deal. Yet, people want to throw stories out there trying to make the situation in to something.
in all fairness, saban went through assistants like that here, and we didn't unravel. no big deal. besides, doesn't he do all the coaching, call all the plays on both sides of the ball, make all game day decisions, and handle recruiting singlehandedly? all the assistant coaches do is hand him water and a towel to wipe his sweaty brow, oh yeah, he doesn't sweat.
yeah it's hard to believe that the sec has: miles: 1 nc :miles: saban: 1nc :cuss::crystal: meyer: 1 nc o::crystal: spurrier: 1 nc :crystal: fulmer: 1 nc:crystal: tubby: 1 undefeated season :angryfire richt: a good coach in his own right  croom: seems to have moo u on the rise nutt: gets more out of less which is perfect for ole miss (sorry col reb) lefire: petrino: won't win any personality awards, but l-ville has fallen off without him :rolleye33: johnson: a good coach at a bad job. :nope: brooks: ummmmm.............he beat us this year. sorry, i got a little smiley crazy. basically, this league should get really interesting (it already was) really quickly. but i think what it boils down to is that more parity may be the result and more teams may knock each other off. you may see a lot more two and three loss sec champs in the future. one thing it won't be is boring between recruiting battles, gamedays, and all the media and fan wars during and after the season, the sec is the mecca of college football.
