Let's see bankers cheating interest rates to prevent regulations, when most of the time they pay off the regulators anyway. If corporations are people, then Geitner, and all the CEO's of these banks need to go to jail.
I know you do, Mobius. Though we seem to seldom agree on topics, I have always considered you a very reasonable debator whose ideas are well conceived and presented. Geaux Tigers......
Big business supports the Republicans who are trying to starve government of income. That is Obama's point. That taxes are not just spent on social programs, but also upon critical infrastructures that are essential to business. The infrastructure is falling apart. I just drove several thousand miles on US interstate highways and some very old bridges that are in terrible shape. The main arteries are filled with big rig trucks bumper to bumper. All the main interstates should be 6-lanes to carry this kind of traffic, but even the inadequate 2-lanes are falling apart and patched everywhere. Air traffic control is having lot of issues, too.
Red producing sensationalism at it's best. The GOVT is not starving for money. The GOVT has squandered everything it has/will have. It's not the taxpayers fault.
I agree about the infrastructure. Stimulus should have been aimed almost 100% to infrastructure but it wasn't. To me it was the biggest failure of Obama's in his term. As far as republicans starving income, there's the other side of the coin. What's the right mix of revenue and spending. Obviously spending has to slow down because you can't revenue your way out. Until they cut real costs, it's crazy to make people pay more money. That's not the problem. Cut costs then address revenue.
. To an extent I agree, he should have wrote it himself, because the Democrats screwed it up and the Republican governors bitched about it and then took the money to shore up state budgets while saying how terrible it was.
Well, the republicans screwed it up with the tax refunds too. We spent half of the stimulus on taxes. It should have all gone to shore up bridges and roads. We're in desperate need. The democrats, for their part, put in a bunch of crap on projects that couldn't possibly be realized for years and years. 8 billion for light rail between Vegas and LA. I don't think they even had a route.
you mean those are shovel ready projects..lol, what crap light rail makes sense, but its a long term project that takes years to realize.
the real problem with this situation is the voters. they vote in obstinate tea party conservatives that have some stupid contract with grover, yet would bitch like crazy if dod is cut in half, medicare premiums were doubled, temporary tax breaks were allowed to expired or mortgage interest deductions were removed.
