I read this earlier today and just shook my head. First, rights are not entitlements. The Voting Rights Act was put into place to protect EVERY individuals right to vote; the most elementary aspect of any democratic government. However, by calling it an entitlement he has revealed his own bigoted ideals because his statement equates the right to vote with a government handout. At the very least we are getting the truth about how some of these people really think and we can stop pretending like race doesn't still play a role in our society today.
I definitely don't agree with what Scalia said here. I'm a little unclear as to what the point he was trying to make is but he's saying some stupid shit there. Having said that, I still cannot comprehend for the life of me, how someone can argue that you shouldn't have to show some sort of ID to vote. It blows my mind.
I have no problems with requiring ID's as long as the rule is even across the board and the same for everyone. I would add that the law needs to be enacted a few years prior to the next election rather than being used as a political ploy three months before an election.
How come having ID for stuff like weapons and ammo purchases are a bad thing but having ID to vote is a good thing?
Who has said having ID for weapons and ammo is bad? The debate has been on registration of all firearms and background checks for all firearm sales (even private sales between 2 non FFL individuals).
I have no problem with showing an ID to purchase a firearm. Voting is even more important. IMO. A politician with an agenda and a pen is more dangerous than any number of law abiding firearm owners. If you wanna push background checks, we need to start with the ones running for office first. Put that up for a senate vote and see how many vote for it. Why not have to show an Id to vote? Will drastically cut down voter fraud. For the record. I'm not gonna register shit though.
Was more of a quip, and definitely not anyone in here but I bet Wayne LaPierre and other lobbyists believe this. I'm pro gun btw.
this is lie and you bought it from the NRA. The bill explicitly in its language to ban any regulation of private sales between 2 individuals. read my brother read.
