Most of this is not news. And it wasn't so much the WWCC crowd, it was administrators who didn't know if O could shake hands and come away with money. That is part of the job for any HC and there are still 2 things that are true....O was offered the DC job with a raise, and prior to his current group position job at LSU right now, he received no offers from other programs to be a HC. But you are wrong about why he was so upset. His primary anger was about the dishonesty he received from Pat Haden. He was misled, flat out lied to about getting an interview, and then not told directly about the new hire. Unfortunately, he wasn't able to help his own case by becoming interim coach and then losing to both ucla and the irish. It gave Pat a handy excuse. Word all over the Pac 12, is that Sark, like a lot of coaches around the country, liked to drink. Having booze in the locker room is hardly shocking. Having a big bar tab is hardly shocking. The difference is, most people don't recognize the difference between what they see as social drinking and true alcoholic behavior. In Washington, I believe he was a functional alcoholic, able to maintain without it impacting his life. He came back to LA with lots of problems and a high pressure job. Combine that with a divorce and it's easy to see why he went from functional to dysfunctional. There are other alcoholics among collegiate and NFL coaching ranks. Folks are looking the other way right now.
VBALL I don't think I told you I went to the USC - Stanford game last year at the last minute. Me and my wife went online and bought some good tickets and took caltrain. USC brought a lot of people. The last Stanford game I went to before that was in the old stadium and there was 10,000 in the stands and they were reading books. I really enjoyed the USC band. Stanford band not so much. Game was good. USC took advantage of Stanford having a horrible kicker.
Noted, but 'other coaches drink' isn't helping the USC situation any. It's kind of like getting caught speeding. The other cars are whizzing by at 90 - but your ass is still getting the ticket. I'm an Lsu grad and supporter but also Trojan fan. (Some people in here could tell you, lol). USC will emerge from this. It's too strong a brand, but right now it's a bucket of dog crap rolling down a hill - on fire. Fans and university deserve better.
Glad you enjoyed it. Their stadium is much improved from a decade ago, obviously. The leland stanford university marching band is a pathetic esoteric anti-establishment piece of shit....IMHO. They are currently under a one-year ban where they are prohibited from playing at any away athletic events. "An investigation found that, on several occasions, the band violated university policies regarding alcohol, controlled substances, hazing and/or sexual harassment. Violations included a tradition in which a band member was given an alcoholic concoction intended to make that individual vomit publicly; an annual trip in which some band members used illegal substances; and a band selection process in which individuals were asked a number of inappropriate questions on sexual matters." My point about other coaches isn't in any way trying to aid USC's problems. I am merely pointing out that the failure of many people to identify Sarkisian's drinking as a serious problem is societal in nature. And I disagree that it's a bucket of flaming dog crap. Far from it. Like any team or group of people with any sense of personal or historic pride, Trojans will rally and so have the faithful. Yesterday's rally at the Navy Pier in Chicago was the biggest and loudest in years. Several former players attended practice earlier this week to remind the current players what it means to wear that uniform. This team is talented....their leader was a drunk. Let's see how they step up today and show their character. He did....I did. 2 votes ain't bad for Tigerfan Forums.
