I was in Sammy's late after they had stopped serving food. There were only 3 or 4 of us still drinking when Curley walked in. I didn't recognize him at first. I had only seen him before from a distance at games or on TV and at games he always had a white shirt with the shirttails half out and a worried look on his face. Curley was pretty well lit up and he asked the bartender to serve him some food. Bartender said the kitchen was closed and all the cooks had gone home Curley kept insisting that the BT make him a sandwich or a poboy and he wouldn't do it. Then Curley asked if they had any pork skins. He said, "you do know what pork skins are don't you boy?" Finally the bartender found a bag with some food that somebody had ordered hours before and hadn't shown up to pick it up. Speaking of the day after getting fired, the day after Jerry Stovall was fired I was walking into Steinberg's Sporting Goods store that Saturday morning when Jerry came out with a brand new shotgun. I didn't think anything about it but these days I might have wondered if he was going to use it in an act of rage.
You and I both know he isn't that dumb. While it is something that I could see happening to me, it hasnt.
Word from Cali is fans and players loved Coach O. The white wine cheese crowd who pays the freight at SC didn't see him as SC material - ahem... rough around the edges. He had no chance there. It's clear now why he was so upset not to get job. It wasn't that he was being replaced; it was whom they chose. Word was all over Pac 12 Sark had 'issues.' Trojans looked the other way.
