It would have been a big deal regardless. Both sides are willing to carry something like that to the fullest extent they can just to make an example to the other side. Had it been Joe Biden's email hacked by a kid of some republican politician, you don't think that would have been all over the mainstream news just like this? What that kid did was pretty stupid and he deserves what's coming to him for not thinking things through before trying to be a wise guy.
You are right, i think it would have been a big deal in the media. However, Biden is the VP and that is matter of national security. Sarah Palin is just some skirt from a frozen tundra.
