I finally had to look at the players on this team. Their hitting has not really gotten better than what they were showing the past few seasons when they were struggling so much to win games. Their pitching obviously is their bread and butter (leads the majors in ERA at 3.20). This team is nowhere near built for a run in the playoffs. Similiarly to what they had in the past decade when they made the playoffs, they won't be able to plate any runs and will simply wilt in the first round again. Might even be another sweep.
dont let your baseball common sense affect what the reality is. the pods are a good team and I think have the best record in baseball since the second half of last year. Even better than the yankees (heading into last month I think). Its hard to wrap my brain around that fact. the facade of a team is more likely the giants.
If I'm a Braves fan (I am), I want to play the Reds first in October. If I'm a Braves fan (I am), I want to play the Padres right after that. Cardinals, Phillies, Giants, Rockies all scare me a lot more than those two clubs do. Whether by reputation or just ignorance on my part.
Is this your reverse mojo crap again? I know it worked once but the force is against you on this one. This team though thin at the plate, seems to never quit. Even if they miss October the season they had to date is far from the season ANYONE gave them leading into the year. This team will not get swept no matter what ESPN says. FTR I do not like the Padres but I do have to deal with their traffic, so I listen and quitely watch.
I wasn't aware ESPN made that statement. Interesting. quietly And no I actually mean this. I don't have any stake in the Padres, so no need to do the reverse mojo for them. The couple of times the Padres went to the playoffs in the past decade, they had this same makeup. Fairly weak offense with little power and very good starting pitching and a solid bullpen. Same thing this year. I don't see Matos dominating in the playoffs. We've never heard of this guy until this season.
I agree about the Reds also. They had their shot with the Cards and got swept. Now they are beating up on other competition.
Giants wouldn't have a shot in the playoffs either with Lincecum not dominating the way he used to. That would be their one mandatory requirement that he win his game, and that guarantee is so far gone at this point.
They do almost regularly when the Friars are questioned with can they follow through in the playoffs. The typical response is as follows: ...with a little dose of: I guess what we do not know could hurt? Maybe, maybe not. All I am saying is that the Padres were selected to fall off after the All Star break and they have yet to do so. With that I am shocked cause I bought into the same talk yet here they are with that "in it to win it kind of play". You could be right but I am looking forward to them proving many folks wrong. I may just take the short bus to Petco to watch. October is beautiful in San Diego, either way... With a little luck you can find a word or two in this rendering to spell check as well otherwise, grow the phuck up.
Well with your implication that my thoughts weren't original but taken from some ESPN commentary makes you look much less mature. So take your own advice.
I implied nothing of the sorts. My statement was to indicate that you along with half the country share the same opinion regarding the team. You shared your opinion, an opinion which is shared by a many other and spearheaded by those from ESPN. If I were ever to challenge your opinion based on a source you gave than it shall be perfectly clear. You did not share a source. The integrity of your opinion is not challenged here. I used ESPN as an example for how many people like you share the same opinion. Rightfully so I might add because the history of this team conjures that opinion. I merely believe with the play of the Padres to date, moving forward should differ from that of years past. If they don't than you and the other half are right and I shall join your opinion. Now wouldn't that be neat.
