it's done. it's one of the headlines (well on the side) at espn.com

if he stays healthy it'll be a good trade, if not, he only has a year left on his contract. if he does well and stays healthy hopefully he'll re sign, they'll be plenty of playing time awaiting him.

I think this is almost a GREAT trade for the Saints.

Worst case scenario, Vilma is merely a descent upgrade at the MLB position for us next year and the Saints D is a little better.

Best case scenario, he's Pro Bowl calibur and his physical play elevates our defense considerably.

I like what the Saints are trying to do this offseason.

If they can sign/ draft a quality corner, our D should be MUCH improved.

On top of all this, there's rumors that Briggs is visiting the Saints now too. Even if we don't sign him, I like that this many big FAs are at least looking at the Saints. Of course 37 mil of cap room always helps.

I think this trade will pay HUGE dividends for the Saints. Vilma was the Defensive Rookie of the Year and a Pro Bowl alternate. The only reason his production dropped off was because he was in a defensive scheme (3-4) that didn't suit his style of play. His knee surgery was for an injury that predated high school, so I'm not worried there. He'll be a force for us.

Its a GREAT pick up because there is little downside if he does not pan out.

And we have not had a MLB with his type of presences since Sam Mills!!

the only reason his production dropped off is because he was hurt. and may still be hurt, because surgery wasn't able to fully correct his problem.

I hope it works out, but until I see him on the field flying around, I will be skeptical.

Leave it to the saints to go after a guy with a bum wheel... guess they figure they will get him at a discount... One day they will actually spend money to get players...
