I knew that the Saints could not go thru a Draft without a bonehead move... trading up for a punter... I dont get it...

I actually agree with the move somewhat. No denying Payton has had many struggles finding a decent punter over the years in N.O. and this is the draft to make this kind of move since it is considered a relatively weak draft.

However you had bigger needs than Punter especially when he would've been there probably in the 7th round. You trade up to get a player that has a potential to make a difference. Trade up and get a DT,OLB,OL, or Big Back.I can understand when you have the number of picks the cowboys and patroits have but not when you dont have many and you are trying to Win now. He may have been worth a 7th but not a future pick for someone that is known for getting their punts blocked and has a slow wind up.

I do not totally disagree but I don't think he would have been available in the 7th.

To look on the positive side, the best way to help a struggling defense is to give them field position to work with. This is assuming he starts in his 1st year.

2nd ranked punter and has a booming leg. I will take it considering our punting game the last few years.

Seems to me that a good punter is a MUST for the Saints the way things have been going....

    We'll see a lot of him.:rolleye33:

    This comment = FAIL.

Although, what I don't get is it seemed the punter they signed midway last year actually didn't do bad. Don't see the urgancy. Definitely didn't like giving up a pick for next year to do it. Bad pick to me.

when you have 4 picks in the draft, taking a punter = stupid.

The Saints don't really punt a ton. And rarely do they go three-and-out inside their own 20, so it's not like they need 55-60 yard punts a ton.

It sounds arrogant to think that way, but that's reality. Their offense probably 85% of the time at least gets a 1st down or two.
