Sean Payton is looking like an offensive genius so far in his coaching career. With Joe Horn out, and the likelihood that the Bucs would put 8 men in the box to stop the run and force us to throw, Payton comes out aggressively and totally takes apart the Bucs defense with a myriad of pass plays. He puts players in position to make plays. Take out Horn, plug in Henderson. It's a beautiful thing. Defensive system working just as effectively. Ordinary players doing extraordinary things. Again, it's a beautiful thing. I like systems. PS - I wish they would stop describing Colston as the best rookie wide receiver and start putting him in discussions as having one of the best seasons for any wide receiver in the NFL. Projected stats for the entire season: 88 catches, 1400 yards, 14 TDs show me better
He has done a great job in such a short period of time, bringing in many new players that were backups elswhere and making quality starters out of them. In todays era of free agency talent evaluation is critical. I just wish they would run Bush less and let Deuce get in the flow of the game. Bush must have close to 2000 yards running sideline to sideline but has yet to figure out that you gain positive yardage running north/south. Use him as a decoy and on reverses and swing passes until he learns how to run in the NFL.
You make excellent points about Bush. He isn't a north south runner but yet the play calls look like those you would run with Deuce. Let Deuce get his 20-25 carries, run Bush sparingly and in trick type plays, and mainly let him play WR.
Dare I ask, is Joe Horn expendable now? Colston has emerged as an absolute stud at WR. There is alot of money on the offensive side of the ball. I'll be interested to see how Peyton and company handle renegotiations with Horn and McCallister. (Bush isn't going to renegotiate or get cut any time soon realistically).
Hell no, Horn is the real deal!!!!!! Colston has looked great as a rookie which is why we made the trade with the Eagles but you don't find a guy like Horn everyday. IMO it is key that both Horn and McCallister return because Horn is a go to guy that makes everyone around him better and is a team leader. Deuce because he is a very good back and Bush hasn't proven he can do anything yet.
Horn is a great part of this offense. He is needed greatly. Colston would love to see him back in the lineup. If Devery can fill in that role of the 3rd wideout, the Saints offense is set to soar to new heights. I am happy for him regarding todays performance.
Horn, Colston, Henderson -- that's a heckuva group of WRs. With the pass-friendly rules of the NFL right now, the Saints should definitely them together. Throw in Dave Meggett..errr...Gale Sayers, I mean Reggie Katrina, and that's a lot of speed.
Horn still has a couple of good years left in him. Horn is also the heart and soul of that team. It is so nice to see the Saints with a QB with brains. I watched Brees stay in the pocket longer than Brookes did when he played. IMO, the best move Payton made in the offseason was getting 3 animals to play linebacker.
Brees just has such great pocket awareness....move up here, slide there, yada yada yada He is up there with P Manning this season in least number of sacks against....that's saying something. He knows when to throw the ball away....can throw the ball under duress and on the run. He is simply a winner. A quality you can't teach.
