I was there on a balcony on the corner of Girod and St Charles. the parade had stopped because Gallier Hall is one block away and each float stopped there because the Mayor has reviewing stands there. The players on one float jumped off the float and ran around in the crowd. I couldn't see what was going on...but read later online that the they bought a lot of hot dogs and stuff from a street vendor that has a concession stand there.

Folks, I have been to many parades there over the last 25 years because it's my brother-in-law's law office on that corner of Girod and St Charles and I personally have never seen anything like that before. The article estimates that the crowd was over 800,000 and I can't dispute that figure. I've NEVER seen it that crowded. People were twenty to thirty deep along Howard ave where there was space. Along that part of St Charles ave, the buildings are close to the street and the crowd was wall to wall. I left the cafe at about 2:15 pm and didn't get to park until until around 6:30. Traffic was backed up on the Northshore for miles with people waiting to cross the causeway. The toll booth quit operating and was just waving cars through to keep the traffic flowing. It took twice as long to cross the Causeway because of the traffic.

Next year, when we win the super bowl again, they're going to have to expand the parade route so that the crowd is thinned out. They should have started that parade in Metairie instead of the superdome...and it still would have been wall to wall people.

    Unbelievable !!

Had to be the best parade ever my only complaints was they could've had some type of commerative saints beads or special throws and lastly so many ppl were "trapped" in parking garages for hours me and my fam were in one for almost 3 hours but still happy we went and wistness history just amazing.

Apparently they sold out on all their black and gold special throws. Benson's float was the only one that had some.

That is pretty good for a city that has about half that population.:D What do ya'll think the real number of people attending the parade was? I'm guessing it was more than for a game. I'll take a wild guess and say twice the amount of gameday--140,000? What do you think?
