I have a lot faith in what Loomis and Payton have done so far. But this puzzles me. I'd be suprised if he makes the active roster on sunday if he doesn't get cut in training camp. http://www.neworleanssaints.com/newsroomarticle.cfm?articleid=3396
Combined with Colston and a big target (BOWE?), Patten can be effective in the slot. This could be a good signing.
I like the pick up. I think he is exactly what Payton looks for in players and he could be a great fit for Brees. We have a young corps and he can be a leader we need and it gives the Saints more options in selecting a WR in the draft. Payton may have his eye on someone in the later rounds. Better safe than sorry and its only a 1 year deal.
Saints signed free agent LB Troy Evans who has been mainly recognized for his special teams play for the Texans. Also signed TE Calen Powell who has spent time at Seattle and Washington camps and played in Europe for the 2006 season.
He is a VERY good special teams player -- pretty much a specialist like Larry Izzo. He's not much at LB, but a key coverage guy on punts and kicks. That's a good signing for the Saints.
