http://blog.nola.com/saintsbeat/2009/03/new_orleans_saints_sign_corner.html Adam Schefter had him rated as 4th best DB in FA. http://www.nfl.com/news/story?id=09000d5d80ef396d&template=without-video-with-comments&confirm=true
Don't like the signing as much as I would have liked Bartell, but I'm optimistic. 4 years for $23 million isn't too bad. Bills fans have some pretty good things to say about him. EDIT: One thing a Bills fan had to say is his strength is man-to-man coverage. The Bills play a Cover 2 zone, so he was taken out of his strengths there. Obviously with Gregg Williams and the Saints, he'll be asked to play man-to-man. For all those who say this is Jason David Part II, it's actually the opposite. Jason David was a zone cornerback asked to play man-to-man. Greer is a man-to-man corner that's been having to play zone.
Good stuff, DH. I'm excited about him and interested to see his development under Williams. DH, what is your take on the depth chart at CB with the addition of Greer? Starters? Greer McKenzie Backups? David Porter Nickel/Dime? Gay Young Cuts? Torrence Glenn Lehan How many do we normally keep, 6? 7?
I think we kept 6 last year. Not sure how price tag falls into it, I know McKenzie will need to restructure or he may be gone, but assume we have all of them that are on the roster: CB #1: Greer CB #2: Porter (in a battle with McKenzie) Nickleback: McKenzie (battling Gay) Dime: Gay Backup: David, Young
Got it. Thanks. I am liking our secondary much better now. If McKenzie makes a full recovery and is even 90 percent of what he was, then I really like our secondary. That's a huge if, however.
To get further opinion on the move from Bills fans, you can read this thread: http://boards.buffalobills.com/showthread.php?t=123421 Looks like overwhelmingly the fans wanted him resigned.
First, let me say I'm thrilled with both Greer and Sharper at this point. Our secondary looks like they may have gone from the worst in the league to one of the best! Second... Ron Bartell... yeah... I bet he's just thrilled with his decision to go back to the Rams. That worked out well for him.
