According to ESPN, the Saints are officially eliminated from the playoffs. http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/news/story?id=3711069 I hope you guys realize this means the Lions get win #1 next week. But on the other side of the spectrum, Payton can let Brees throw for 500+ should that situation arise on Sunday, because there are no more playoffs to save him for now, although it'd still be risky considering Brees was once injured in a meaningless Week 17 game.
Yeah, but I'm hoping by some stretch of the imagination that they pull a Tennessee and they get rid of him.
what makes me nervous anytime this topic comes up with the Saints is who would they get? Benson could very easily let Payton go and hire a fan who won the Superbowl in Madden 09 to take his place. I have been very, very critical of Payton (and rightfully so), but the Saints coaching problems are that Benson hires decent head coaches, from Mora to Ditka to Haslett and Payton, but he doesn't shell out any $ at all for their staffs. We didn't even know the Saints had an OC until he left the team. Their DC is pathetic. The only good Saints assistants you ever hear about are guys like Mike McCarthy who go and be assistants somewhere else (b/c the Saints don't ante up) and eventually become head coaches.
any other team in the NFL, I'd agree. But Brees playing Marty-Ball again = puke There's a reason he wasn't very good in SD.
If the defense could be so much as upgraded to competent, we'd be one of the best teams in the league.
