Thanks for the chicken wire for the Saints-Falcons and Cowboys-Steelers. Those were two nice come-from-behind victories. Now the Saints are in much better shape for the playoffs than they were after last week.
So the Saints hang in for another week. Can they beat Chicago? Sure. Will they? Most likely not. It should be a heartbreaker of extraordinary proportions. Thursday night game. Which is cool. Chicago 27, New Orleans 26
So now the East got a lot more exciting. The Eagles are now in the thick of it and can conceivably run the table, which is what I am predicting. They have to go to Washington and finish up with Dallas at home. That game should decide the last wild card slot most likely, unless Dallas does a total metldown and is 8-7 at that point.
If I could, I would bet money that the Saints will somehow figure out a way to be the last team out of the playoffs, like they usually do.
PURPLE TIGER, as you complain so much about our secondary (which is not completely unfounded), remember one thing. We're playing our 4th, 5th, and 7th CB's! I think Porter will be a very good cornerback when he gets to play a full year, and I think we can find one more respectable corner (assuming McKenzie is done) to play on the other side. Get a new FS, and we'll be alright. What is my problem, though?!! They're making me want to believe it's not over again... I just don't learn do I? They sit 1 game out of the wildcard with 3 to go! If they get past Chicago, they'll probably break my heart in Detroit. ALL I ASK IS FOR A MEANINGFUL GAME AGAINST CAROLINA!!!
What's so aggravating is this has been the story their entire history. We've had great players at every position over the years but no GM or coach has ever taken the secondary seriously. That's probably why some of the QBs and WRs from the old NFC West are either in the Hall of Fame or known so well. Other than Tommy Myers, we haven't had much back there. I like the addition of Randall Gay but McKenzie is always hurt and is paid too much for little production. We keep trying the band-aid approach and we keep getting torched. I guess if we add a few more high draft picks and trades to the offense, we can score 60 points per game. That might be enough to go 10-6. I just don't want to beat Chicago and Detroit, lose to Carolina and finish 9-7 and get the 15th or 16th pick in the draft. I don't think we have a 2nd round pick, so our 1st pick needs to be a good one.
