Saints kick off mandatory minicamp without Drew Brees "The New Orleans Saints kick off three days of minicamp with five practices open to the public today. No one is going to spot Drew Brees on the field, though. The Saints will go through mandatory veteran minicamp without their All-Pro quarterback. Brees is trolling for a long-term contract with a massive pay day and he is not required to attend because the club has placed the franchise tag on him and he has yet to sign the tender. Instead, a quarterback similar in stature will run the offense – Chase Daniel – the understudy for the past three years after a record-setting career at Missouri. It’s a little perplexing the Brees’ situation has dragged out this far after the number of times the quarterback, the general manager, the owner, the interim coach and just about everyone else that has been polled has said the deal will get done." I wonder if this will ever get settled? Have there been any comparable issues in the past with other quarterbacks?
ESPN reported today that the Saints and Brees are a little closer on the contract, but are still about 1.3 million apart.
Well, they have a little over a month to get it done. If not, then I think we get to look forward to Chase Daniel running the O.
I have no doubt it will get done, perhaps at 11:00 pm the night before reporting day of training camp, but it will get done.
NFL has requested to review New Orleans Saints practice tapes The NFL has requested practice tape from the New Orleans Saints' minicamp session, a source has confirmed. The request comes on the heels of a skirmish that broke out during the Wednesday morning's practice between several members of the offense and defense. It is not clear if the league has reviewed the tapes yet, or exactly what the league hopes to determine by viewing the tapes. NFL spokesman Greg Aiello said the league was not going to comment on if it had requested or received tape of the Saints' minicamp. Although he did note that "all clubs are subject to having their OTA video reviewed. That's how the OTA rules are enforced." The NFL recently docked the Seattle Seahawks two scheduled OTA sessions for violating contact rules in the Collective Bargaining Agreement that was signed in August. The league likely won't find the Saints in violation of the rule, as all five minicamp session were open to the media and the workouts were done mostly at half speed, wearing only helmets, jerseys and shorts. Aw...the NFL is seeing this fight as evidence that they still have a bounty system in place.
I heard Vitt made the OL and DL prospects line up in a row and moon the videographer.....so they could send that video to the NFL in compliance with their request for all video of the practices.
I wonder how long it will be before a movie is made about this mess. Steve, THAT would be one of the funny scenes in the movie LOL
