Well, it's official. Not my first choice and his secondaries have usually under performed. Brees threw for nearly 500 yards when we played the Cowboys in December last year and they have a significantly better defensive personnel then we do. Not sure how this is going to work out, but trust Loomis and Payton know what they're doing. We shall see. http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/8931793/rob-ryan-lands-new-orleans-saints-work-1-month
He's probably the best choice of what was out there this year, given Mangini and Crennel were never considered viable candidates. ESPN also speculated that Ryan coming here could give the Saints an inside track on luring Anthony Spencer if the Cowboys don't franchise him. He'd be an excellent pickup. But looking at the big picture, how good does Ryan have to be to improve on what we had last year?
@SI_PeterKing: Rob Ryan must be a great interview. None of his last 6 defenses, in Dal+Cle+Oak, ranked better than 14th in yds allowed/13th in pts allowed. Peter Kings take.
What do you think the Saints record might have been last year with the number 14 defense? We were 13th in points allowed in 2009 and won the freakin' Super Bowl.
That was his best effort. Not saying he can't be successful but the cowboys have good personnel and their defense sucked last year.
Peter King must be great at something besides interviewing, because he can't surely be keeping his job due to talent.
Coach Sean Payton: “In regards to Rob (Ryan), we have experience in preparing and playing against his defenses and they’ve always been challenging in terms of the different looks and pressures that they feature. ... I’m excited (we got him on our side)" Ryan's defense in Cleveland took the Superdome over in 2010, beating the Saints 30-17 in the first season after New Orleans won its first Super Bowl...the Browns intercepted Brees 4 times, held Brees to a lowly 65.8 QB rating and held the Saints running game to 3.2 yards per carry for a total of 58 yards
Last season, Cowboy Defensive starters Barry Church, Kenyon Coleman, Jay Ratliff, Bruce Carter and Sean Lee all had their seasons cut short because of injuries
Cowboys Defense Has Major Lack of Talent Jan 2, 2012 ... Folks will try to say Rob Ryan is just a terrible defensive coordinator, and honestly, they might be on to something, but let's be fair here — a coach is only as good as his players. ... the Cowboys just don't have a lot of talent on the defensive side of the ball. LB Sean Lee ... DL Jay Ratliff ...DeMarcus Ware... That's it. No one else on that defense is an above average player. ... Is Rob Ryan as brilliant a defensive mind as his twin brother? Maybe not. But he can't work with a bare cupboard either. If the Cowboys want to be a better team in 2012 it'll have to start with a massive re-tooling of the defensive personnel.
