34 in April. Missed the last 15 games of the 09 season for tricept injuries. He is a gamer, when he ain't broke. Last three seasons, something has hurt, something...

Sorry got thrown off my the MLU post.

Yes, Williams is a NT. And yes, we need to look at him hard and I think we might just sign him.

I do think we need to go out and try to grab a released DE or maybe even give up a 3rd rounder for a RFA DE.

I dont think there's a RFA DE out there that's worth a 3rd round compared to the talent in this draft at less I can't think of one

Yeah, that Jamal Williams. He's a space eater which is really what the Saints need. Kendrick Clancy filled that role well last year, but when he went down the Saints run defense dropped off noticeably. He'll fit in well right next to Ellis and Hargrove.

I guess I understand the cutting of Grant, but I'm confused with the timing. The Saints are very restricted in who they can and can't sign this free agency period. Going into the draft with such a huge hole in the depth chart isn't their M.O. and limits y0our draft options. I'm sure that Loomis has something up his sleeve, but I'd like to know what it is.

I can get that Williams helps our run defense, though at age 34 he's just a stopgap. But he's irrelevant to the discussion of where we go at defensive end now that Grant is out of the picture. I think Grant's release makes DE our top draft priority, while before I would have said OLB. Griffin from USC looks like an interesting prospect who might be there at the last pick.

How cool is that? We've got the last pick in the first round, which means |lombardi|, baby!

It probably says that the Saints have their draft plan in place already and tips their hat that DE in their opinion is the primary position of need. Other than letting other teams know you're looking to draft a DE in the first round I don't see anything negative about releasing him now.

And the fact that he went to a team that wont contend for the NFC title makes it a win for the Saints.
