Aside from the fact that this team just isn't very good, they are severely lacking Payton's leadership. I though Drew might take up that role but for whatever reason he hasn't. The team lacks intensity and desire and it seems most obviously lacking in Brees. The hunger seems gone.
Agree to some extent, but he's had serious pressure in his face for two full games now. Buttload of dropped passes today to go with that (I think he's going to miss Meachem more than people imagine). Having said that, a lot of people thought before the season that Brees would try to do too much this year to make up for the absence of Payton. I think they were correct.
I agree the O line hasn't done a good job but it's more than that. It's Drew's demeanor. He hasn't carried himself in the way that got them the SB. Something is not right with him, whatever it may be. He really doesn't look happy or like he cares. He doesn't seem like the kind of guy that is motivated by money but it's hard not to think about it. So many guys lost their edge after a big payday.
Absolutely. Both games the offense scored enough. The defense is horrible and Spags better start getting results or I can't imagine him lasting long.
I said it during the offseason, and I'll repeat it now. Benson screwed the pooch with his handling of this interim coaching gig. If it would have just been SP with the suspension, I would have been ok with Vitt going the season; however, with Vitt's being gone too, they desperately needed to bring someone else to lead the team. Kromer is in waaaaaaaaaaaay over his head, and his having to delegate his duties is wrecking havoc on the offensive line. Without his being in their faces during the game, they have totally lost focus. The Saints need to do something quick!!!!!. If Kromer isn't relieved of the head coaching duties so he can focus on the offensive line, the season will be over soon because Brees is going to get hurt. Get Jim Mora on the phone STAT!!!!!!!
It looks like 4 things are working against the Saints terribly so far. 1. The o-line is getting its collective ass handed to it. Whether it's Kromer not being there to make in-game adjustments or DB making the line calls (has he ever done that) or something else, the offense won't get better until that's fixed. 2. The defense is lost. It could be adjusting to scheme, it could be Spags doesn't have the players that fit, it could be that it just takes time. But leaving Steve Smith all alone (even when he's gimpy) is going to get you beat like a drum. I was expecting more zone blitzes and better tackling. Haven't seen either yet. 3. The offensive coordinator is adjusting. Yeah I know Carmichael has been the O Coor for a number of years now. But these past two games remind me of the Tampa game last year when CSP went down. Play calling isn't necessarily bad, just uninspired. Even if Pete called 90% of the plays since he's been in NOLA, it's the 10% that CSP called that the Saints are missing. 4. The replacement officials. I realize both teams play with the same officials but there have been some horrible no calls with the Saints so far this year. Holding, of course, is mostly subjective but the mugging by Smith on that first half TD was pretty obvious. It also seems to me that hits on the sideline just aren't being called.
Yeah, but a lot of the points are being put up in the 4th quarter when it's basically too little too late.
Absolute brutal weekend! Got steamrolled like never before. Getting driven through the floor on my gambling front, lost 3 of my 4 picks in King of the Hill and both of my fantasy teams are not looking good.
