I think this is one of them. The Colley Matrix is made public from what I remember, and that's the one Brad Edwards had to point out made a mistake last year that ended up putting us behind Boise State in the final BCS standings.
Kind of, but then it doesn't strike me as particularly worse than your average poll voter who just kind of throws crap together, and really it doesn't matter because no one will ever find out until the end, when it's too late.
Oh there was a study done years back by Yale students, I think it was. Mucho evidence about coaches purposefully screwing with rankings to benefit their teams. Ranking teams they'd beat higher than they should've been, etc.
Code: RATING W L SCHEDL(RANK) VS top 10|VS top 30|ELO_CHESS|PREDICTOR 7 Arkansas 89.48 10 2 73.58( 28) 0 2 | 2 2 | 95.82 4|85.33 14 12 Kansas State 87.11 10 2 78.53( 10) 1 2 | 5 2 | 93.81 5|82.69 24 Especially strange b/c he has the Big 12 rated above the SEC. I am sure there are plenty of other oddities, but that hardly means there is something sinister going on.
At the very least they should make verification studies available to the public. Stuff like back-predicting final BCS standings from previous seasons. Personally, I wouldn't accept an algorithm for which the author isn't willing to publicly publish the full source code. Maybe I'm not remembering this right, but wasn't there an article on the BCS from years ago that mentioned a computer component from some guy in Oklahoma who had zero experience with computers? From what I remember he was just an old guy who had been ranking teams as a hobby for 30 years, who was somehow juiced in to the BCS people, and the furthest possible thing from a programming expert.
This is why this system should be thrown out, it should not be used anymore and its time for a playoff or something different. This is as bad as politics, this is just sleazy!
i vaguely remember something about that. seems they said the guy was down in hugo, oklahoma. let me put it this way.... in oklahoma, if you are gonna hear banjo music and need to drive faster, it would be there.
